I don't see how a reasonably intelligent person, and I'd like to think that Secrets' readership is reasonably intelligent, would miss that the ratings are strictly based on objective video criteria.

All they have to do is look at one of the player summaries and see that audio capabilities aren't mentioned.

The problem? I've seen way too many people say, "DVD player A is better than DVD player B, based on Secret's Shootout results," and then they are reminded that it is video only, not audio, and then they say, "Oh, I didn't know that."

Most people use the DVD player to provide the bit-stream to a external receiver/processor. The player is not doing anything with it.

But video - very different story. Lot's of issues and processing going on. That's why the focus on video quality/handling of problem scenes.
