My card was of Lei Fang kicking up water from the opening movie. Kinda disappointed I didn't get a Hitomi or Christie. Anybody wanna trade?

Chris, i got the serves down, but the spikes now are hard... whenever I hit A at the top of the ball's arc, my player jumps up, pauses a bit, then slams it down... into the net. Always. I haven't gotten a strong spike over the net.. only the really easy ones.. I'll try hitting A a little bit before the top of the arc now.

Anthony, try waiting until the ball starts to come down, not as it is going up or at its peak. And when using the directional, try aiming a bit up or down (on the analog stick), or maybe pushing the stick a bit to the right when spiking. You'll get the hang of it, it just takes some practice.

yup, i got the spikes down now.. now last thing to get down is the blocks - thanks for all the help! :)

Also, anybody besides me notice.. that after you create a game you can go into options and there's an option labelled - "your age" and it's set to default at 17? I changed it up to like... 30something but not sure what it does ;)

well.. uh.. i just sorta "beat" the game..

in the manual they said you can play a "survival" mode somewhat like DOA3... but I don't see it anywhere on here. Also, I recall seeing pics of a night volleyball game, as with other things too.. there was that one really skimpy victoria's secret lingerie that supposedly you had to unlock or something..

does anybody know how to "unlock" anything new in this game?

Anthony,
There's supposed to be a tie between DOA3 and DOAX in the sense that DOAX knows how to read your DOA3 data from the HD and use it somehow.

A-ha!

Someone confirm this since I'm at work.

On the TXB forum someone said that the pictures of the girls on their slot machines show what kind of gifts to get them.

Well, the manual provides info like their favorite color, food, and hobbies. So I just base my gifts off of those.

Anyone tried going back and playing DOA3 Survival Mode to see if it does anything?

IGN gave it a 9.2. They said the same things as GS, but still thought it deserved high scores. It seems that it is all about expectations. IGN sees the game as a very polished, original game. For those looking for the "Best Volleyball Game Ever" will find it comes up short. Personally, the things that IGN likes about the game are not as important to me. I am one of those people who would have appreciated "The Best Volleyball Game Ever."

I read the IGN review comments & it sounded to me like "we like the pretty graphics. We like the oogling. It does them really well so here's a high mark. The gameplay isn't that good, but the oogling is really good.".

It started development as a means of oogling the models, I guess it ended up that way ;) Good on Tecmo - they've managed to sell a "lite" dating sim to the US audience. I'm curious how many people would be raving about it /without/ the pretty graphics? And that's not an accusation of "graphics whores" etc, I'm genuinely curious.

Its the same thing for most modern game. Orta wouldn't be nearly as well received if it the graphics weren't as good.

The gameplay is fun, and the volleyball part of the game does have some depth. Its the part I've played mostly. I couldn't care about the women, gifts, etc. So far, I like the volleyball aspect better then Beach Spikers. I can't think of a better volleyball game releaesed in the past few years, with the exception of possibly Beach Spikers.

The graphics are very well done though, best game I've seen in a while. I prefer them over Orta's, in large part because DOA XVB is modelling more real world objects, compared to Orta's fantasy depiction. The beaches and environments look well done. The women animate really well, and look better then Beach Spikers. I never really liked the splotchy textures in Spikers.

The reviews are all based on expectations. If you want a fun volleyball game, you get it with this. To me, the game will most likely have 10+ hours of gameplay, which makes it worthwhile, and it'll be enjoyable. Its probably an 8 out of 10 or so.

Without the graphics i think it would have gone by pretty much unnoticed ... kudos to Tecmo for being pretty sharp with their marketing of a game like this in the west. I wouldn't mind having a quick play with the DOA girls :D but i certainly won't buy the game.

LOL... 6.0 vs. 9.2. I know Gamespot usually gives a lower score in general but geez! One of them is VERY wrong here...who is it? If I go with my original expectations for the game, I'd have to say GameSpot...but I would't mind if it really was a 9.2 game ;)

Played it well into last night, good game but Tecmo could have gone a little further. I really wish it was Xbox Live! compatible to d/l more stuff, as what is in there is good but just not enough of it.

Some things I would have liked to see:

* More characters (or unlockable secret characters.) The DOA girls are all excellent, but a wider span of characters with varying skills would add depth.

* More mini-games. Would be nice to have a few volley-ball centric minigames (like the cushion hop) that you can do poolside for fun. Like a spiking trainer or a ball return practice machine.

* More places to explore/play. What's there is good, but what about that ferris wheel I see in the middle of the island? I want to go there and have fun! How about a volleyball court set up in an beachside cave or on top of the mountain?

* Longer gravue movies. If I'm gonna waste 1/3 of a day on watching my girl roll around on a beach or relax by the pool, let me determine when enough is enough. I would go even further and say you should be able to watch your girl at any time, anywhere. If nothing else, just to see how that new suit looks or if all the kip she has on matches. Same for your current partner, if I give Hitomi a new suit, I want to see her in it.

* More casino games. When I play poker as Lei-Fang, it would be nice to actually play against other players in REAL poker, not video poker. You know: ante, raising, calling. Nothing like bluffing someone out of a pot when you have a Jack high hand.

The game is pretty good at what is there though. Fun to play with the wife there, I enjoy the volleyball and the 'eye-candy' and she enjoys perusing the items in the shops and putting together gift ideas for other girls. I would have never thought of this as a game we would play together. I hope there is more content on the way though, maybe a booster pack like DOA3 had?

PS - Has anyone figured out how to feed another girl some food in DOAX? I keep buying treats for Hitomi, but never seem to be able to give them to her. After awhile it just goes bad in my inventory and if I eat it myself, there is nothing to watch.
