I was wondering if any of the SACD players do DD and/or DTS decoding on board. That way you could just run straight into a preamp/power amp and speakers eliminating the need for an external processor.

    Mike,
I think there are a couple in the market right now, the one that I can recommend you (only by spec), is the new
    Sony DVP-NS755V
plays DVD-Video discs, multichannel & stereo SACDs, CDs, audio CD-Rs & CD-RWs, and MP3 CDs
    108MHz/12-bit video D/A converter
selectable interlaced/progressive-scan component video output (progressive scan requires a compatible TV)
    Pixel-by-Pixel I/P Conversion de-interlacer with 3-2 pulldown processing
    twin laser pickup
    Precision Drive 2 system
    SmoothScan and SmoothSlow search modes
    10-second Instant Replay
TV Virtual Surround for enhanced 2-speaker sound
    built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder with 5.1-channel output
    bass management for multichannel output
optical and coaxial digital outputs for Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM
    2 sets of A/V outputs (2 composite, 2 S-video, and 1 480i/480p component video)
    multibrand remote (operates most TVs)
    192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter
    audio signal-to-noise ratio 115 dB

A number of DVD-Audio players offer on-board Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. Obviously, there are fewer such SACD players.

    Hey there -

I just bought a Sony 5 disc DVD changer. I'm not sure what the prefix model numbers are, but its something "...-650V". It plays SACD, DVD, CD, VCD, and SVCD - I was very happy to see it do wonders with some of my SVCDs! It does have multi-channel capability with SACD as well as decodes DTS and Dolby Digital. Its a great player for the money, and the DACs are actually better in some ways than those of my HDCD Denon CD changer, although I still prefer the Denon overall.

I wouldn't run this directly into power amps... a preamp of some sort is DEFINETLY necessary.

    Hope this helps,
    Scott

Scott, it's the DVP-NC650V. [IMG] It is a very good component for the money. I don't own it, but I have used it.

I'm fairly certain that every DVD/SACD player and DVD-A/V player on the market will decode both DD and DTS 5.1.

Cool... Thanks everyone! It makes sense that they should do the decoding, I just never saw or heard anywhere that they actually do.

Note that these are all DVD players with SA or DVD-A capability, NOT dedicated audio players.
