Does anyone know if it's possible (or just difficult) to receive DirecTV local channels for cities outside of one's own market? For example, could I receive Detroit channels in San Francisco? I understand that some local channels are "Spot broadcast" but I believe that Detroit stations are broadcast on the normal DirecTV satellites. Is it simply a matter of providing a billing address in the area from which you want to receive programming?

No. You have to change your service address. Even then, you physically need to be within 200 miles of your "new" address.
