That's the standard version guaranteed. If you go to bestbuy. Com and do a search you can check individual stores if they stock a particular title. I use it all the time. If it's not on the website they don't carry it

Here's the email message I sent to the Best Buy near my office:

Here's their response:

$14.99?! That would be amazing--if it were true!

I tried to find this Blu-ray on their website to see what price is actually given, but it's not there at all.
That's the old Blu-Ray version.

I'm still waiting for this to arrive in the UK. Given the time it's taking, I suspect Customs may have grabbed it for examination and extraction of tax (the Amazon price is above the European tax-free limit).

I'm not sure if this has been discussed.

For all those unfortunate international members without the proper gear please be aware that the Criterion disc is Region One.
I tried it on my Region 4 player and it was not compatible, so it is not region free.

Luckily, at the introduction of Blu-rays, I foresaw situations like this and imported a Sony Region One blu-ray player from the US.
It has served me very well.

What would life be like if you weren't able to watch this incredible Criterion Blu-ray release.

The MGM-UA Blu-ray of the general release version is Region free, but boy are you missing out on something extra special.

Thank you, Carl LaFong, for posting the Lena Horne clip. I thought maybe she performed it at the Oscars the year it was nominated, but I checked on it and it was sung by James Darren.

I ran this for myself a few nights ago - what a wonderful cinematic experience this new Criterion edition is! So having seen it multiple times in 70mm at the Cinerama Dome on the big curved 90 foot screen, I decided to process several scenes for the SmileBox format for my home screen and WOW I was fully transported back to November of 1963 for the original Cinerama showings. All the aerials and action shots have that Cinerama thrill, you are there, feeling to them. Such a treat!

Next stop Khartoum!
As wonderful as this release is, it would've been even more wonderful with a Smilebox edition included. Wish I had one of those Dave Strohmaier Smilebox processors. :)

I bought a multi region player in order to watch the region one locked THE ROBE when Fox first released that and which, remarkably, still hasn't been released in Europe.

Douglas, is that a Multi Region Blu-ray or DVD Player or both?

Thanks for that.
I knew that you could get a multi region DVD player but I wasn't sure if multi region blu-ray players existed,
although I do seem to remember reading something, somewhere, about region free OPPO players, but I still thought that it involved DVD only.
Does it handle 3D?

To keep the thread on track, I was completely blown away by the restored Roadshow version of IAMMMMW.
In one word: Outstanding. Amazing. Astounding. Brilliant. Superb. Inspiring. Fantastic. Incredible. (you pick the word)

Multi region Blu-ray players are not easy to find in the UK but there are a few specialist dealers (like Multiregionmagic) who modify them. Mine is Technika, a supermarket brand for which you have to input a code to change regions. I really only need it for the few Criterion and Olive discs I have, so it doesn't get a lot of use!

It doesn't handle 3D. I have a separate region B player which plays 3D so I wouldn't be able to play a region A locked 3D Blu-ray disc, other than in 2D. Which is bad news for me with the 3D DRAGONFLY SQUADRON coming from Olive.

I guess multi region blu-ray players would also be available here in Australia under the same conditions as those in the UK.

You've shocked me Douglas about "Dragonfly Squadron" 3D not being region free.
My region one Sony blu-ray player pre-dates 3D.
I might need to update. :(

Back to IAMMMMW.

Doug, The Oppo are by far the best multi zone players and are easily obtainable here in Australia. I have the 105. You just enter the code to change zone. They also do 3D if that floats your boat ( it sinks mine). :)

Just got the 2 disc soundtrack from lala land records. Can't wait to fire it up. Anyone else have this? I have the original one disc release too but that's only 44 minutes long.

Douglas Pratt's "DVD Laser Disc Newsletter" has weighed in on the Blu-Ray in the February 2014 issue. He made me want to buy it again.
I still have over 10 years of back issues of "The LDN". Always read it cover to cover when the postman delivered it each month. Let my subscription lapse back in the late nineties when the immediacy of the internet pretty much ended my waiting for printed media to arrive.

Happy to see that Mr. Pratt still publishes the newsletter (in .pdf format I believe?) And I see that he even has some BD reviews online over at a site called Movie City News.
