My criticism exactly. The car was proof that brakes had been tampered with to corroborate her story. Ordinarily women in that era wouldn't have been believed over their husbands, but this was proof of her allegations. The chase through the factory was pretty predictable, too, once Peggy Dow came in and once he removed the guard rail from the overlook. Still, I enjoyed it because Ida was such a good actress. As I watched my Blu-ray this morning, my recall of the movie came back to me. Also, my main criticism of the film came back too. Women in those days were at a distinct disadvantage but I still couldn’t buy her not going to the authorities when they were searching the river. Other than that detail, I enjoyed revisiting this movie again. Ida Lupino has been an underrated actress and filmmaker. I’m glad she is finally getting her due.
