If there is any way it can be brought back to how it looked originally, then money should in theory be no object. But the longer they wait, the harder they will have to work to bring it back to the original colors.

I'll certainly say I'd be interested in seeing this movie getting a better restoration. As much as I enjoy the movie, I would have grabbed the current Blu-ray some time ago, when I converted to the format back around 2014, but it's been comments from others here who said that it still needed work that left me holding off in hopes that something better might come. I'd be surprised if it didn't, but the question remains, who will do it? At this point, WHV isn't bothering with catalog titles, except for the handful it's doing for UHD. Being that WHV released it on Blu-ray, i have a hard time seeing WAC re-do it, since everything they've put out that WHV did on Blu-ray so far has just been straight re-issues. The only other option would be licensing it out (hopefully to Criterion), but who knows?

Even if they licenced it out to Criterion, Warner would still have to pay for the restoration. Criterion does some of their own transfers, and often tweaks existing masters, but they don't have the kind of kind of money to cover a full-scale digital resoration.
