Contrast calibration? (1 Viewer)

I have purchased DVE finally and am calibrating my system. The thing is that adjusting my contrast doesn't seem to change the pluge at all. It can crank it all the way and there are still 4 very distinct whites and there is no blooming in any of them. How should I set my contrast properly. right now I just set it to what I think is a good clean white with no grey. (not that I am really capable of making that decision effectively) So what can I do?

People often don't understand the behaviors of their displays, and many a times go hunting to no avail for blooming, etc on digital displays, and wonder why they can't set things right... :b
