Actually, I believe you need one that goes to 2GHz (for satellite). It's also called a diplexer. You've got the right idea, though. You need one on each end of the cable run.
In addition, if you think that in the future you might want to support more satellite receivers than your dish will allow, you can get a multiswitch that also has an input for cable. You still need a diplexer at the TV.
