I think you should leave it Jim, after all beauty (greatness) is in the eye of the beholder, one man's treasure is another man's trash, insert silly epigram here, etc. Besides, if one of us (you or anyone else) thinks a director is great, what difference does it make if someone else doesn't. The subjectivity of the title and the exercise seems implicit to me. While a director like John Badham may not be "great" to me in the inimitable, auteur sense of the word, he has made one truly great film and may merit inclusion on that basis. IOW, who knows what the criteria are and who cares? Keep up the good work Jim. (Steps off soap box.)
Some suggestions, sorry if I'm repeating anyone:
Stanley Donen, Christopher Guest, Rob Reiner, Milos Forman, Michael Mann, Sidney Pollack, Wes Anderson, P.T. Anderson, Ron Howard, Errol Morris and Michael Moore (if you're including documentarians). Vincente Minnelli and Blake Edwards are two others that have been mentioned and I'd like to see them as well. I'm sure you'll get to Woody--the director I'm most eager to see praised and/or disemboweled .
