I recently rekindled my intrest in lp's, and was wondering about a turntable. I'm able to get a 3404 for free from my grandparents, it's in working condition, how will it stack up to a newer player? Is it worth investing money in a new stylus for this thing?

Can’t comment on that specific model, but B&O typically made better-than-average stuff, even if it was a bit overpriced. If it’s free you certainly can’t go wrong.

Yes, with any used ’table you definitely want to invest in a new stylus, as you never know what condition the old one’s in. Trust me, a bad stylus will permanently damage records – I’ve ruined a few in my day.
