As is the case with most receivers my Onkyo has two outlets in the back to plug in other components. Are there any pros or cons to utilizing these - such as more wear and tear on the receiver, etc. At this point, due to a shortage of outlets, I have my DVD player plugged into one of them.

No problem at all. As long as the rated power consumption is less than the output of the outlet, it's golden.

yeah, you should be fine. as long as you're connecting normal gear (dvd, tape deck, vcr, etc.) then you'll be fine.

don't connect anything that draws a lot of power, like a big-arse amp or anything! :)
