Audio connex question (1 Viewer)

I will be purchasing a Blu-ray player soon. The player will be either the Panasonic BD55 or Sony BDP550 as one of my requirements is 5.1/7.1 analog out for use with my pre-HDMI receiver.

When watching SD-DVDs on either of these players will the analog audio connection deliver the audio or will I need to connect a coax/Toslink cable for this situation?

Thanks in advance.

The answer will depend on whether your BD player decodes the old DD and DTS formats. If it does, then you do not need another connection. If it only bitstreams the old formats, then you will need a digital connection to allow your AVR to decode.

I'm pretty sure the BD55 does internally decode. Check the manuals for each to be sure.
