It's my habit to "surf" the forums, looking for newbies who need help--usually it's a matter of finding the manual on amazon or crutchfield, downloading it, and translating the instructions into English....
On one of these threads, the subject of "Theater Reasearch" speakers was brought up. Apparently, they sell on ebay. They also appear to have a website.
Apparently, though, the name "Theater Research" is also associated with White Van sales. And if you look at their site, it all seems to click in to place. The aesthetics of the speakers is vaguely reminiscent of eccentric audiophile equipment (McIntosh...), althoughprobably without the attendant quality control and attention to detail.. The list prices are typically in the thousands of dollars, and the associated tech specs seem... a little off... A subwoofer with a low end of 50 Hz, for instance.
So, have they moved on from white vans. Or am I impugning the high reputation of "speakers ranked among the finest in the world?" The introductory "crunch bass" track that greets visitors to their home page doesn't really help, though.
