Anyone used hammerite before? (1 Viewer)

I was originally going to lamiante my subwoofer cabinet, but made the dumba$$ move of trying to straighten it out and shattered the piece. So I went and got some hammerite spray(black hammered finish) to apply on the cabinet. I primed it first with two coats of spray primer, waited for it to dry, then proceeded to apply about 4 coats, each about 15 minutes apart as the can suggested. The final finish is a weird, grainy rough texture, not unlike sandpaper, instead of that durable smooth hard finish that hammerite should be. Does anyone know what went wrong? I am going to sand off a couple layers and try to do it right this time.

I don't think that surface is suppose to be smooth..
But I maybe wrong..

well not flat smooth, but a glassy, glossy type of surface is what it should be...
