Hey folks. Normally I don't get as personal on a message board but I've been coming here for the past 2 years and this is the only place where people are nice when it comes to forums. In 24 hours I am going to have one of my testicles removed. The doctors found a tumor in one of them which is taking up 40% of the area. I've been told that this procedure is pretty easy but I am concerned about recovery and the future.

I had a chest xray and CAT scan, both came back ok. This all came about when my wife and I went to a fertility specialist and my sperm count was 0. I've been told that this procedure usually allows sperm to resume but we'll have to see afterwards.

Does anyone know of anybody that's been through this? Just looking to hear about other people's experiences.

Thanks!

Jason-
Sorry to hear about your situation. I was diagnosed at age 28 in May of 1987 with a right testicular tumor and had a radical right side orchiectomy done within 3 days of my diagnosis. After healing I followed it with a 3 week course of radiation. I had a lymphaniogram done to assure no spread to the lymph system. To date (almost 17 years) I've had no issues. All of my CT scans within the 5-7 year window of post surgical follow up all read the same. NEGATIVE! (that's good in med speak). Be sure to get the name or type of tumor/cancer it is. Do your research about the condition. It is more popular than you might think. Celebs such as Lance Armstrong, Richard Belzer and John Kruk have all had a testicle removed. I'm available to talk privately if you'd like. Forward your contact info.I will say this .... every male should do self-exams of their testicles in the shower at least monthly. Mine was found during a work physical of all places. Someone was definitely watching over me!

Jason, sorry to hear this. If you're looking for some comedic reassurance do a search on Tom Green and testicular cancer. He was diagnosed an opted to have the testicle removed. He then convinced MTV to let him tape the procedure for his show.

I hope everything works out well for you.
