What's the big deal about 5K to have her eyebrows waxed? I think you're looking at that money from your point of view instead of hers. To her, $5,000 is like $5.00 to us.

To put in into perspective, I know women who will travel to another town because they like a certain hairdresser. Why would they drive to another town when there are plenty of hairdressers in the town they live in? Why? because it's no big deal to drive to another town to get their hair done - it's no big deal.

So if it's no big deal for J-Lo to spend that kind of cash to have someone fly out and do that, then what's so wrong (or hard to understand) about it?

I'm sure there are less fortunate people out there who don't understand why you would spend $25 for a steak dinner at a fancier restaurant when you can get hamburgers at McDonalds for only $0.69.

Perspective people! Perspective!
And you heard this ridiculous rumour
Wether it's true or not, how is it ridiculous? There are lots of things stars do that we can't imagine spending the cash on, but they do it all the time. I'd love to hear of the "ridiculous" things most people would do if they were handed millions and millions of dollars.

If you can afford to spend the cash, it's not ridiculous.

Yo, 'cuz she's still just "Jenny from the block" keepin' it real, youknowwhutimsayin'?

She expects people to buy the image that she's still just a regular, down-to-earth girl from the Bronx. I doubt anyone in the Bronx is getting $5,000 eyebrow waxing. She just comes across as very superficial and phony.

Correct. So she should give up the pretense that she's still just a regular "Jenny from the Block."

Hey, I'm from the Bronx!

But despite the fact that I am now in Vegas, I'm still Rick From the Bronx. Aight?

Heard on the radio today:

The real reason Ben and Jen decided to call off the wedding was because 6 days before the wedding, they got in a big fight, and to cool off from it, Ben went to one of Larry Flynt's "casinos" and lost a ton of money playing $10,000 hands of poker, amidst scantily clad women, one would have to assume. When Ben got home, Jen was furious and that was the end of it all.

Given Ben's income, $10,000 hands of poker would be equivalent to us "normal folk" playing with $100 hands. No wait...make that $10 hands (with the added bonus of hot babes around your table). Must be nice being rich! *jealous*

Affleck's (alleged) shenanigans reminds me very much of my friend who is now living in Costa Rica, being paid in US dollars with a nice US salary. Flash a twenty dollar bill and you have your pick of beautiful ladies to do with as you please for a several days at a time - assuming you have proper personal hygiene and aren't a total ass that is.

It just boggles the mind.

As some one else pointed out, J-lo is the type who needs this stuff. But even worse, the media thinks WE need it too. It is a sad commentary on ourselves as a need-to-know country, that his Benefir gets so much attention and takes up so much time in the news.
To me, J-lo is simply trash who gets paid for being just that. Someone has led her to believe that she can sing and that she has acting skills. That ass of hers must not be all that since you rarely catch a glimpse of it. It seems to be something that get talked about a lot but a no-no to catch a full and lingering shot of it.
Ben has done well ditching this biotch diva wannabe. But now we will have to listen to news of her shopping or swimming in the ocean or whatever. I have got to where I will turn the station, even if for a few minutes, when her name comes up.....

Explain to me in a rational fashion what this woman has done to deserve such a strong word.

I understand not liking some celebrities (you can't like everyone), I absolutely do not understand the seemingly active hatred some people feel toward some of them.

I guess she would not be as trashy in your eyes if she where always taking her clothes off and shining her arse in peoples faces??

I don't like either Affleck or Lopez, but I am pretty sicked at the petty hatred I see in this thread.

And yet you keep coming back to see what else people have to say about them and take that opportunity to express your displeasure even more. Curious hmmm. Move on if you don't like it. You have your opinions, others have theirs. Just because they differ don't make them any less relevent.

I don't understand the hatred either but I surely don't care what other people think about some stuck up movie stars.

This thread reminds me of a comment my brother made when we were watching that "reality" show with Jessica Simpson. The scene where she is demanding that the car door be opened for her, my brother says: "Yeah right, what a bitch..." and I responded: "And if that was you with her, you'd be kissing her ass and saying 'Right away dear'" :D

Most animosity toward celebs is based on jealousy. I can't imagine any one of us guys throwing J-Lo out of our house if she showed up on our front door. ;)

*raises hand*

Sorry, I don't see anything attractive about her. Americans may go for her "exotic" (by American standards) looks, but women like her are everywhere 'round these parts. She's not particularly pretty, her voice is annoying, and her body's nothing special, outside of having an enormous ass, which does nothing for me.

And any woman who DEMANDS that I do something, is not for me, thank you. I DO open doors for women (and men, if their arms are loaded with packages or whatnot). I also help my female friends carry bags if we're at the mall. However, I do these things without being told. Anyone who feels so entitled that they DEMAND that I do such things, won't receive any courtesy from me.

Mark, I know that it seems it's trendy to pick on celebrities because their wealth and fame are sometimes perceived as undeserved, but there's another side to the coin: I think some celebrities are excessively praised or admired simply because they're famous. Case in point, Ms. Lopez. As I said, I consider her to be completely average, looks-wise. Yet most men speak of her as the second coming. To quote a great man, "I've seen better at the Mall of America".

Is Justin Timberlake "hot"? All I see is a scrawny guy with the broadest nose since Michael Jackson started having surgery. He can't sing that well either, yet he's praised as a fine performer. He's an astounding dancer, but a singer? Panting into the mic. doesn't count.

I'll refrain from further examples, since I don't mean for this post to be a celebrity bashfest, but I just wanted to offer my theory. Sometimes people dislike a celebrity because they honestly don't care for them, not out of envy.

The most silly thing about all of this is the part of their lives they choose to display to the public is not even talked about. But their own personal stuff is bigger than either of their careers right now. That must be annoying.

Affleck has a cool looking movie coming out also.

But why do celebs have to be drop dead gorgeous to warrant all the attention? Going back to the 'Jenny from the block' comment makes perfect sense to me because J-Lo DOES look like your average person, she's not a whole lot different (look wise) than a lot of women I meet every day.

We've been so inundated with "The perfect Woman" image that most men are turning the other way, the fact that J-Lo looks sort of 'average' is a big turn on to most guys because it makes her seem more "Real" to us.

I think that's the big attraction with her, she seems more 'approachable' than the rest.
