I have to agree with Khoa... my local THX theaters with JBL speakers sound the best. Simply phenomenal. I always try to go to ONLY THX certified theaters, as I find that they usually sound drastically better than non- THX certified theaters. And they are almost always equipped with JBL's...
Dwayne, Please let me know what you think of your new system after a few good movies! I'd love to hear your opinions, as I'm sure Marc would, too. :) And as Chuck pointed out, your receiver is acting totally normal. Just make sure you read all of the manuals thoroughly... you'd be...
Hey Chuck Congrats on your new speakers... I also run my system with Dahlquists and have been thoroughly enjoying them so far. :) As for matching a good receiver with these speakers, I feel that either the HK or the Yamaha would be a very nice match for your new speakers. I power...
Ernie, I just upgraded from a Paradigm PW-2200 Version 1 to a Version 2, and while the V1 did NOT fart/pop when it turned on, the V2 DOES. It pops when it turns on *and* when it turns off. I'm still beaking in the new V2 so I can't comment on the performance upgrade over the V1, but...
Congratulations Dwayne! I think you'll be very happy with your new Dahlquists. :) To get optimum performance out of those puppies, you'll want to power them with a "warmer" receiver like the Harman Kardon AVR125. I power mine with a Marantz SR6300 and it sounds wonderful... music is...
IMHO, the Dahlquists will sound *at least* as good, if not better than those Paradigms you mentioned. However, you may want to opt for the QX125S subwoofer from Dahlquist instead of that QX100S, which is a much better sub for the money (10" woofer instead of 8"). About the dipoles... you...
Dwayne, I'd take a serious look at the Dahlquists, especially at those blow-out prices! I own these speakers (after auditioning many, including the Paradigm Cinema series) and I must say, for the money these speakers are sensational. Do a search on this forum for Dahlquist and you will...
David, Here's a few good suggestions for your consideration: I've included little notes with each, found in brackets (). - HSU Research VTF-2 - on sale for $449 w/ free shipping http://www.hsustore.com/vtf2.html (A great all-around sub, which will serve well with both music and...
What is your budget for the sub, David? ...And do you have any problem with ordering direct from Internet-only companies? Your room size is similar to mine, so I can give you a few suggestions after I hear back from you about your budget. Ciao, Michael
Hi I've got the Marantz SR6300 receiver and I'm trying to find out what the sub crossover is for this unit, in both speaker modes: large and small. My speakers can extend down to 30hz, and I own a very capable Paradigm PW-2200 subwoofer. But, I'm not sure which setting will produce the...
David, I second the vote for the Point 5's. But, I'd get them *without* the Athena sub, as you'd be much better off with a different sub. There's a lot of good ones out there to choose from. I've owed the Point 5 system and found it equally fantastic for the money playing back both...
Not sure if this helps, but you can see lab results for the new 5400 model here: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/art...&page_number=1 I was very impressed by the numbers this thing is producing and I can't wait to upgrade my 6300 to the new 7400. Looks like S & V mag will have the...
Ernie, I've got the 2200 and love it! I've auditioned the 2100 and it's a very nice sub. It can't go quite as low as the 2200, but has A LOT of punch for it's small size. This thing will still shake your walls if you let it. Get down to your local dealer for an audition :) Michael
Yeah, thanks again Chris! :) I actually called Paradigm and they could only give me a price on one of the new models, the 12" Seismic. They said that MSRP would be around $2,000 CAD... so I suspect one should be able to pick it up from a reasonable dealer for around $1,600 or so...
Thanks guys! Here's what I ended up doing... with the great advice from Chris (thanks!): I went with a Paradigm PW-2200 V2 for $872 (from Audio Ark - Edmonton), and they'll give me FULL trade-up value when I want to upgrade to the new 12" Seismic sub or Servo 2500! The Seismic 12"...

WOW... thanks for all the great input so far! I talked to my Marantz dealer today with some good news: They'll let me bring this unit back after Xmas when they get the new "400" models in and upgrade with no strings attached! :) I've also heard that the new Marantz line is...

Hmmm... "I would expect the new pw2200 to be right near the top of the Tom Nousaine list once he has a chance to measure it." -Tom V. SVS "In fact, the measured performance of the Dharman equals that of the Velodyne HGS-15, a $2500 reference level subwoofer!" -Adire website...
Hey Joshua I just got some Dahlquists myself and absolutely cherish them for the price I paid! I bet you'll love yours as well. I run mine with a Marantz SR6300---a good warm receiver, which is just what these speakers need. Your H/K 525 should be just about perfect for the...
Hi I'm looking at buying a Paradigm PW-2200 (the newest version) and am wondering how much people are paying for them (Canadian)? A dealer told me $1,100 CAD, which I know is WAY too much. I was thinking more around $800 - $900 should be possible. Any other Canadians care to chime...
Thanks for all the help so far! Quick question: would I see a noticable improvement in power if I upgraded to the 7300 (not OSE) to warrant the $100 - $200 cost? Other receivers I'm considering are the H/K 330 and the Pioneer Elite VSX-43, but unfortunately my dealer doesn't carry...
Hi I've owned my Marantz SR6300 for just over two weeks now and it seems underpowered to me. It sounds great with music and pretty good with HT, BUT... I'm running a 5 speaker HT set-up with Dahlquists (fast, efficient speakers) and this receiver just doesn't seem to have the power to...
That's great, Bart! I'm just glad I was able to help. And I agree, these speakers are equally as pleasing for music as they are for home theater. I couldn't be more impressed with these speakers, especially for the amazing price. Hope you keep enjoying your new system as much as I do...
Hey guys I've seen and heard the new Dahlquist line (most of it), and I agree that they are a FINE speaker. But, I didn't notice much difference, if any, in the overall sound quality between the old and new line up. I was under the impression that the only significant changes to this...
Hi Bart I just picked up a Dahlquist surround system yesterday -- similar to their System 5 on their web site. My system consists of two QX8's for front mains, a QX60C center, and two QX6's for rear surrounds. Naturally, it's awesome! For your situation, I wouldn't shy away from their...
