Thanks for all the comments. My neighbor owns the Hughes and the recording is awesome!! I just prefer the Sony guide on my HD receiver. I have been reading about the Hughes on Tivocommunity.com and some folks have been having trouble with hard drives dying. I'm still undecided on dropping such a...
Anyone heard anything about anyone building one of these units besides Hughes???? I was hoping Sony would come out with one and heard a rumor about a Sony HD Tivo with 7 tuners and 50 HD hours of recording time. Any truth to this????
Thanks Gary!! I have called Sony. I'm outside the year warranty, but the article says they will fix it anyway..I am waiting for the local service center to investigate. Thanks again..
I bought my 35 hour Hughes DirectTV/Tivo at Circuit City for $99. At the time there was a $50 rebate, which made it $49. I was at Circuit City over the weekend and they still have them for $99, if your interested. Check out their website at Circuit City.com. :)

I bought the Hughes HDVR2 and it works OK, but the video quality is worse than VCR on SLP. Is there anything I can do to improve the video???? This unit has an option for 4:3 OR 16:9 ratio and I have it set to 16:9 for my widescreen. Is this affecting quality?? Maybe I am getting too used to HD...
