Do you have or have you seen the new Hitachi SWX20B tvs w/ DVI? What are your impressions? Do you recommend them.

Is Upconverting to 540 P (or 1080I) really a good feature?

Have you seen the new JVCs (48wp30 and 56wp30)? They upconvert everything to 1080i and it makes analog cable and even OTA 480i look respectable.

The 48" JVC w/ DVI/HDCP no longer availabe???!!! WTF!!!

Frank, this is GREEEAT news!!! Now I can put the new Sonys on my wait list with the new Hitachis!! I think you have clarified beyond any reasonable doubt that the Sony is indeed HDCP capable. I stand corrected. I was only repeating the assertions which I had read in another thread about the...

Panasonic admits it's newest HDTV tv may be obsolete soon!!!

David, Perhaps I was guilty of some unfortunate use of hyperbole particularly in my first "YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED" post. No harm meant. I just didn't want to make a $2,000+ mistake and I didn't want anyone else too either. Nuff said.

The 48" JVC w/ DVI/HDCP no longer availabe???!!! WTF!!!

This makes sense Albert. I thought something might be wrong with the set. I never bought that line of bull that "JVC pulled it because they couldn't meet demand". Looks like those who bought 48WP30 may have a defective set. Phil, the new Sonys have DVI WITHOUT HDCP which makes them...

    Which size Toshiba ?

According to this site http://www.mcsquared.com/images1.htm the optimal screen size for a 9 ft viewing distance is a television with a 60" (5ft) diagonal screen. Both of the tvs you're considering should work well at that distance so it cocmes down to personal preference.

The 48" JVC w/ DVI/HDCP no longer availabe???!!! WTF!!!

"He who hesitates is lost." I had been waiting for the new Sony hdtv's with DVI to come out, but after learning that they don't have HDCP I decided to go to Best Buy in Rockville, Maryland and pick up the 48" JVC. This is what the salesman told me, "JVC has discontinued that set because...

Panasonic admits it's newest HDTV tv may be obsolete soon!!!

It never ceases to amaze me that many who have already purchased a non-DVI HDTV and more shockingly those who are actively considering doing so fail to even consider the VERY REAL POSSIBILITY, IF NOT PROBABILITY, that their tv may become obsolete soon IF (as it now seems likely) the MPAA wins...

Panasonic admits it's newest HDTV tv may be obsolete soon!!!

An interesting article from gng news archive: "Everything You Own Is Wrong I've been coming across quite a few articles lately detailing how, not only rapid obsolescence, but the MPAA is screwing us all over. If the Consumer Electronics industry doesn't do something fast, all of the great...

Panasonic admits it's newest HDTV tv may be obsolete soon!!!

Dan your glass is half full analogy has been made before by many others when an emerging technology has entered the field. Will Divi be the next divx or DVD? I don't know and neither do you but I can say that alot of very wealthy and powerful people are determined to make it succeed. Here's an...

Panasonic admits it's newest HDTV tv may be obsolete soon!!!

The following should cause anyone who is considering purchasing a HDTV without DVI inputs to at least reconsider the wisdom of doing so. The brand new Panasonic PT53WX42 53-Inch HD-Ready Television(with no DVI input) has the following liability disclaimer: "If your cable company passes...

    KP57HW40 Sony

The way things are going right now I wouldn't purchase an HDTV that didn't have a divi connection. The writing's clearly on the wall. Divi and perhaps firewire is the future of HDTV. DAGNABIT!!!

So, is a new hdtv worth it now with dvi this winter?

Phil,a couple of newbie questions for you (and anyone else out there)on the 48" I'Art. What's bad about the JVC's up conversion to 1080i? How severe is the red push? Can it be be corrected using Avia or by doing some basic tweeking in the service menu?

So, is a new hdtv worth it now with dvi this winter?

Great question and one no one can answer with certainty. Personally I would be VERY reluctant to spend big bucks for an HDTV or HDTV ready tv that may well be obsolete in a few years. The JVC 48" i'Art with its divi input has leapfrogged from nowhere to a solid position as one of my top...

Anybody have theJVC i'Art 48" RPTV?

Saw it at Best Buy yesterday and it had a great picture (the silver cabinet is kinda sketchy though). With the divi inputs it seems to be the closest thing to a future proof HDTV ready set on the market. On the downside it's a brand new model loaded with innovavtive features and that means...

Desperately seeking a lesson in WIDESREEN trigonometry

Chris that link is fantastic and it's helped me really focus on what's important---THE BIGGEST AND BEST PICTURE I CAN AFFORD. On that basis the 30" 16:9 tv falls well short of the 32" model. The 30 incher is only a scant 4.8% bigger than the 32 inch model when displaying widescreen video...

Desperately seeking a lesson in WIDESREEN trigonometry

I am interested in the new Samsung flat screen HDTV sets. One is a 30" 16:9 model and the other is a 32" 4:3 model. They are both $1200 with free shipping at circuit City. i want to get real numbers for the screen dimensions of the two sets both normal and with letterboxing. I asked the...

Samsung 30" Widescreen TXM-3096WHF? Anyone seen this?

I am actively considering the same two Samsung sets and I'm very interested in comparing them spatially. Does anybody remember high school geometry? I don't. I'm interested in the real dimensions (height and width)of the two screens both naturally and when viewing material that must be...

Should I stay away from the Panny?

I am moving into a new house next month and I have a budget of $1600 for my home theater tv. I want the best and biggest picture I can afford-- that will work in my situation (more on that later). I had eliminated RPTVs from consideration because I believed that the best pictures come from...

Which flat screen tv has the best picture for the least price, Sony, Samsung or JVC?

Thank you for your response Brian. I am definitely considering the Sony but as I said yesterday, the Samsung surprised me with its picture at Sears. It actually looked better than the Sony. Was this just an anomaly? Any thoughts on JVC sets? What are the model numbers for the Toshiba...

Which flat screen tv has the best picture for the least price, Sony, Samsung or JVC?

I went to Sears today intent on looking at a few Sony Wegas. I came away overwhelmed by the beautiful picture and clarity of a 32" Samsung flat screen (TSL3294HF) which was available for $1,200. The salesman tried to "stear" me towards the Sony Wegas but my eyes kept straying to that gorgeous...
