    Error correction player for scaler

Hi, After reading other posts, I've determined that it is best to feed the scaler a normal 480i signal which is as clean as possible, so it needs to come out of the player's digital output. I found a list of such players which I'll include here: Pioneer Elite 79avi Pioneer Elite 59avi...

    Error correction player for scaler

Hello, I am looking to find a DVD player with the following characteristics: 1) Output well suited for input to a DVDO® iScan™ VP50 scaler. 2) Well made so it lasts more than 1 year (should last closer to 5+ years) 3) Has good error-correction to seemlessly handle scratched disks from...

Panasonic RP62 giving no surround sound

I've resolved this issue. I needed to change the receiver's settings, not the DVD player's. The receiver has different settings that are persistent for each input, hence the Dish worked fine by DVD didn't.

Panasonic RP62 giving no surround sound

Hello, I was playing the Avia DVD and notice some strange problems running the digital output into my Pioneer Elite VX-45TX. What I observe is that sound is only coming out of the left front, right front, and subwoofer speakers. Nothing is coming out of the center channel nor the left and...

Audio out of Sync with Video

I extended my experiment by sending both digital and analog to the receiver so I have three sources to compare. The analog through the receiver appears to sync up better although I still get a slight echo effect (although much less than before) when I listen to the TV analog output...

Audio out of Sync with Video

I performed an experiment: I ran the DVD analog outputs directly to the TV and did an A/B comparison between the TV and the digital output through the receiver. It appears that the analog output to the TV is synchronized exactly whereas the digital one is very very slightly delayed, maybe...

Audio out of Sync with Video

I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX receiver and have digital inputs for the Pioneer Elite DVD DV-05 and the Dish PVR-500. I find that when their is dialog the movement of the mouths on the screen does not match the sound of their voices. It appears that there is a slight delay in the voices...

What's the best component cables to buy?

I went with hand made ones off ebay. Low cost good quality. The one I chose was bluejeans, Kurt Denke [email protected] cable $40 for a 3 feet and I am very happy with them on my Toshiba 34HF81. The connectors are Canare RCA plugs and the cable is Belden 1694A. This is supposedly...

Any Toshiba 34HF81 Owners Out There? Need Help!!

I have one of these sets, and yes, you will continue to see thin black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing an anamorphic DVD. This is since the screen is 16x9 which is 1.77 whereas the DVD is 1.85 hence the slight black bars at top and bottom. Anyway, it looks great to watch...

A Primer for Home Theater Newcomers

Don't make this mistake configuring your 16x9 TV for DVD input.I had my new HD 16x9 Toshiba 34HF81 TV for over a month before I realized that I had the DVD player configured for a non-optimal picture. Since some DVDs have an anamorphic signal for the widescreen recorded on them, you...

    Surround speakers mounted in walls?

Hello, What options are there out there for a surround system that puts the speakers into the walls? Are there speaker sets that are designed to be mounted in walls? What is the quality like on these systems? I think putting the speakers into the walls will make it easier to sell my wife...

Do DVD players really need to be cleaned?

Sorry, I have no idea how much it would cost, but expect it should be a standard proceedure that they could give you an estimate on over the phone where that to indeed be the problem. It may turn out to be something else, but my money is on the alignment (not that I am any kind of expert).

Do DVD players really need to be cleaned?

Phil Florian, I had problems with my Pioneer Elite where it was failing on some discs and pixalating or getting stuck. I would tell the video store there was a problem with the disc at first, eventually, it kept happening (not on all discs) and I tried one at the video store, and it worked...

    Good component video cables

Hello, Well the DVD is too old to be progressive unfortuneately, but the TV tries to do the 3-2 pulldown on the fly. So I just bought Cable A for $41.90 3 feet including shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1339269553 Seems like a reasonable price. Regarding Cable B, now...

    Isn't stereo enough?

I guess using headphones is an exapmle of "perfect" conditions, as this can be seen at Disney. So if I go 6.1 I wonder if putting the speakers into the walls will pose a problem since the TV is in a corner of the room like this and we watch from bed I imagine speakers at :star: locations...

    Isn't stereo enough?

Hello, I have been told that since we only have two ears, one should be able to create a 3 dimentional sound with just two speakers, adjusting the frequencies of a sound to place it. In other words, we only hear things in 3 dimentions because they have different pitch...

Thoughts on an Open Box Panasonic CT-34WX50

Thanks for all the continued info. Sounds like the analysis is promising if the buttons aren't loose, etc. That leaves me with the 3:2 rollback issue. As I understand it the Panasonic, being older, doesn't have the 3:2 rollback line doubler, whereas the Toshiba has it, but the Toshiba...

Thoughts on an Open Box Panasonic CT-34WX50

Thanks, That sounds like a reasonable calculation. What is the expected life of a TV of this sort? I seem to recall a number of around 30,000 hours of use, is that accurate? If it were, the TV would be about 7% used up, leaving a life of about 19 years if we assume 4 hrs a day 365 days a...

But what if it were a floor demo model, as they assert, and is likely being this is the very last one they have, now that they are discontinuing the Panasonic line? What do you think of damage that might have been caused by its use on the floor? Should I be concerned? I don't care...
