I realize this is an AVM-20 thread, but the processor is only as good as it's supporting equipment. I just upgraded one such piece of equipment, and feel I should report the results. I have owned the AVM-20 for a little over a year, and use it with a full 7.1 complement of Paradigm Studio...
I have another item to add to the "wish list". It also involves bass management. I would like to be able to set crossovers by source. I have Studio 100s and a Servo-15. I really like the bass from the 100s. I would like to cross them over at 40-50Hz for 2-channel, but am content with the...
I use the Servo-15. It is an ideal combination with the 100s. For music, I cross the 100s over at 50Hz. The transition to the sub is seamless. The Servo is very fast and musical. I use the THX 80Hz crossover for HT. The Servo will shake the house if I let it. Being Servo driven, there is no...
I recently replaced my Parasound HCA1500 (205wpc) with an HCA3500 (350wpc). I finally got around to hooking the new amp up. My Paradigm Studio 100s suddenly came alive. The mids and bass are much better defined; the transients are faster. The 3500 is pure class A for the first 15wpc. The sound...
Christopher: The mini plug is a 3.5mm mono plug. You can buy them made up at Radio Shack in 6' lengths, or use speaker wire and plugs. The tip is positive, the sleeve negative. Daniel
Martin: there is no specific trigger cable. Some components use just 18-22awg doorbell wire or speaker wire with bare ends. My Anthem uses a 3.5mm mono mini jack. The tip is positive, the sleeve is negative. You can get the jacks at Radio Shack. Daniel
Jeff: I bought my amp last week, but it has not arrived yet, so I can't comment on it's sonic characteristics yet. I am currently using a Parasound HCA-1500 which I like quite a bit with my Anthem/Paradigm combination. The 3500 should sound similar...only more of it! I researched prepros for...
I just bought a Parasound HCA3500 amplifier. It is rated at 2x350 watts @ 8ohms, has 2 power cords and is wired to 2 dedicated 15 amp circuits. It has no remote triggers and I do not have good access to the power switches. My options are: 1) leave the amp on all the time. Idle power...
Michael: Here is the million $ question: Do I calibrate with the internal test tones to 75dB, or with the calibration disc to 85dB and tweak the surrounds and rears with individual speaker levels? When you use Avia or S&V, are your levels more or less the same as the internal tones? I still...
Here's a question about calibration. Using the internal test tones of my AVM-20, I can easily calibrate my 7 channels to 75dB by first adjusting Noise Ref Level to 3.5dB. When I put my S&V HT Tune-up disc in the DVD player to verify speaker levels, the fronts read 85dB at reference, and I need...
Inwall speakers utilize the wall as an infinite baffle and in theory don't need an enclosure. I use Paradigm inwall speakers as my rear surrounds and they sound very good. You may want to insert dampening material between the ceiling joists if there is no insulation, or push insulation away if...
I was intrigued with the AVM-20s setting of front=large, sub=yes which reroutes the lfe, center and surround bass to the sub, and leaves the fronts intact. I wanted to insert the X-30 in the front channels to utilize the Analog (non DSP) inputs with bass management. I can't figure out the wiring...
I have a Paradigm X-30 crossover I got with my Servo-15. I have been using it only as a volume control. Is there any advantage to using the X-30 to filter the fronts rather than the pre-pro? I am using Paradigm Studio 60s as mains. Thanks.
I run 7 channels on a Paradigm Studio Reference setup. My two amps are a Parasound HCA2205AT and a Parasound HCA1500. I have the specs on both but don't know what to look for. Which amp should I connect my main front speakers to? (Fronts are Studio 60s.)
Jason, I went through the same deliberation. I ended up buying the Studio ADPs. I do not regret my decision. The ADPs are not as finicky to position as some say. Paradigm says you can even place them on stands. I have mine mounted 7 ft. up on the side walls, about 15 ft. apart. Enjoy yours!
My HT uses more than half of a 16x40 ft room. My seating area is open to the rear to another room, necessitating the use of in-ceiling 7.1 rear surrounds. I realize that all speakers should be about the same distance from the seating area. Is that distance measured across the floor, or directly...
I own a Parasound HCA 1500A stereo 205/ch amp and an HCA 2205AT 5ch 220/ch amp. Which should I use to power my Paradigm Studio 60s? The remaining channels will drive my Studio CC, Studio ADPs, and Studio SA15s. Thanks.
I am considering some Paradigm Studio Reference ADPs. Because of the odd shape of my theater, they would need to be on stands or shelves at 45 degree angles to the walls. Will they still be effective, or would I be better off with direct radiators (Studio 20s). Thanks.
