I asked this question a long time ago and thought a solution may now be available. My good 'ol TW56x81 RPTV still soldiers on and I don't have budget for a new LCD panel but can convince the wife to fund a new DVD player Are there any dvd players out there now that will allow me to upconvert...
I've had DirecTV HD for almost 2 years and am quite happy with it. We're just getting the basic $10/mo package as it has History HD, NGC HD and most of the others we are interested in. We have the earlier model H20 DirecTV HD box.
Hi! I've had DirecTv HD for almost 2 years now. For the extra $10/mo it cost me it is a great deal. I don't buy any of the movie channels - just stick to the base package offerings. Plus, when we moved I got the install/dish/HD box for free, I own the box but I think that you have to lease...
Hello! I'm looking for advice on a good quality upconverting DVD with component out to plug into my old but still kickin butt Toshiba TW56x81. I've been researching but have been unable to come to a conclusion. Some say that CRT-based sets stand to see little or no improvement from the...
hello. I've got an old, ISF calibrated, still ass kickin TW56X81 CRT RPTV that is capable of 1080i - Direct TV HD stations blow you away. No HDMI tho.. I've read some posts that indicate the Oppo upconverting player will upconvert standard DVD's via the colorsrtream inputs. Some posts say...
Howdy folks, hope you had a happy turkey day. I ought to know the answer to my question but sadly do not: My wife just brought home a Toshiba Regza 32LV67U. It appears to be a nice unit with a built in upconverting DVD player. However resolution is only 720p 1366x768. Some people say 720p is...
Hi: We have DirecTV HD and some of the HD channels display in pillar box format regardless of tv/box settings. The TV and the DirecTV box are set to 16x9 format, the box set to 1080i stretch. TV is an old TOSH TW56X81 using colorstream input. About 1/3rd of the HD channels display this way...
Greetings: I have an old (bit still rockin) Toshiba TW56X81. While cleaning the dust, etc from the CRT lenses and first surface mirror (got real dusty during a move out of state) I accidentally smeared some sort of a sticky substance from around the mirror mounts onto the mirror. Of course I...
I am hoping someone here on HTF can guide me in the right direction. My Tw56x81 has begun to display a whitish halo on very black scenes and when the scenes fade to black. I had the set ISF'ed right after I bought it and all has been well. Any advice will be appreciates:D
My TW56x81 has begun displaying a white "halo" effect on very black backgrounds. Can you tell me what causes this and how to fix it? I have SVM disabled (using a fix from HTF)
I've had VERY good luck with my Toshiba TW56x81. Had it about two years now and still satisified. It's put together well and delivers a great picture, particularly so with the Panny RP56. But - picture quality is truly a subjective thing. I would compare the pictures between the units you...
OkeDokee... Here's my setup - not the best but not the worst Toshiba TW56x81 (ISF calibrated) Panny RP56 Yamaha RXV595 DD5.1 Front speakers - B&W 301 center speaker - B&W CC3 Rear speakers - B&W 301 Phase Technologies 10" sub DirecTV the x81 cost $3800 2 years ago the...
Hi. I'm using a Sony SATb3 for Directv and have an OTA coax into it as well. I have the svideo running to my x81 and the VHF/Sat (coax) out running to a splitter that feeds two other sets on other rooms.
Now since we set this up we could always get whatever Sat channel was on the box to the...
Well... I've had really good luck with products made by Tripp Lite (isobars are one product) But - Monster has been spoken of highly as well although I don't have any experience with their stuff
My advice is to buy a UPS that also conditions power. I got a Tripplite Smart500 USB with power conditioning. I checked with the mfr and ran their answers past an EE buddy of mine and this unit does have sine wave output. Plus, it has a $50k equipment warranty
RIGHT ON
I agree completely. A well stated opinion. What we are seeing is typical of the overall dumbing down of american consumers... All because of a few unenlightened folks and the typical corporate focus on short term profits only...
Thanks Bill... This is more of a wife doesnt want to fiddle with it than an equipment issue. She's a "press one button" kinda gal. Me, I'd fire up the surround sound!
The stock speakers are full range, I may not get much extra by replacing them unless I use a coax type of speaker:D
Hello. In an effort to improve the sound of the x81 I would like to replace the stock speakers (they look to be 6") I know the power output is only 14w/channel but ya gotta believe that a better set of speakers would be worth the effort. Does anyone know of a good replacement for these...
