Is there anything better than a home filled with surround sound from one of your favorite movies? I don't think so. In fact, I haven't thought so since I plunked down a lot of money for a Pro-Logic preamp more than twenty years ago. That Carver served me well... but today's technology is just...
I'm the very satisfied owner of two Onkyo systems. Their products and their sound are the best I've had in my home. This new receiver would compliment my Panny 65" plasma for at least a year or so, until the 4K screen takes its place. Just awesome sonic capablility from Onkyo!
I'm currently using a Harman Kardon AVR75, which I've had since it was a new model. Now, I'm looking to upgrade to a newer unit, and I'm thinking about a 7.1 unit that can amplify a second zone (my outdoor patio). So... I've been looking around for the past couple of months and I'm really liking...
I just purchased and installed a Benq 1620 DVD/Dual Layer recording drive, into an older IBM intellistation (500mhz pentium, 500Mb ram) The computer recognizes the drive, will read CDroms fine..but every time I put in a pre-recorded DVD I get the blue screen of death with the message...
I’ve got a weird thing going on with my new 563A. I have a Panasonic DMRHS2 at work, and I’ve made several discs to view at home – and recorded them at two different ‘speeds’ (compression rates), to fit the material on a DVD-R. Without fail, whenever I play a disc that’s recorded at the...
Well - you've confirmed what I thought. And, to be honest, it sounds like the PE Titanic will be the choice unless I hear anything truly negative about it. My wife will appreciate the musicality over the loudness (which is a problem between us...:D ) I'm thinking that once I can build the...
I finally got the O.K. to find a small subwoofer for our surround system. I've been looking at the Parts Express' Dayton MKIII subwoofer kit with a lot of conviction, but then a friend suggested that I look at the Hsu sub, and I can get it for the same price ($349) as the MKIII. So, now I'm...
At this point, I just want one good one - I'll check out the Titanic... I'm using a KG150 Subwoofer amp. In the meantime, I'm looking to build another set... and that will take a little time.
No, the tube size is not large enough, 10" was the largest to fit into the system (I don't have the complete specs here at work). The system is sealed, no port. I am amplifying it with a 200 watt external subwoofer amp.
I have a couple of cylindrical (sonotube), sealed subwoofers that I made some time ago. At the time, I took the advice of a friend and installed Gold Sound dual voice coil 10" drivers... I have found out (through this forum) that these speakers were never intended for subwoofer use, and my...
Does anyone know if they will do a 'marathon' day - where they play all of the episodes from season 2, back to back - before season 3 starts again? I'd sure like to get to see some of the episodes I've missed!
The only thing I know about that meets that criteria is the Panasonic DMRHS2 or the Toshiba RDX2, both which are also combo units - they're DVD recorders, too. Dish Network subscribers have an option that's similar to what you're talking about, too. I'll be interested to hear if anyone...
I missed it - Halloween gremlins at my door and in the programming of the VCR... If anyone is willing to share a copy of the show via videotape, send me an e-mail... (loved Manhunter, by the way)
I, too, am using an AVR75 that I got in 99. I just missed the DTS units (AVR65). I've been extremely happy with the quality and sound of the unit. I've recommended it to friends and several have purchased HK gear - and are very happy with the results. I hope to move up to a 520 sometime soon...
I watched another episode last night - the mystery murder on the ferris wheel episode (using an SVHS deck... no Tivo in my house), and I'm going to have to agree that the plots are skinny... all of the sudden inspiration strikes and he has the answer, and everyone just takes his word for it...
I've been watching Monk, Friday nights on USA, for the past few weeks, and I'm really enjoying it.
The writing quality fluctuates... but Tony Shaloub is always watchable and inventive. Every time he could have a cliche 'actors' response he manages to come up with something new and totally in...
I agree with the Elton John 'Seasons' pick - I must have listened to that soundtrack a hundred times way back when...
There is an Enya piece that has a huge pipe organ sound that also comes to mind...
But I'll add my personal pick - Barber's Adagio for Strings, op. 11. If ever there was a...
I taped it Saturday night - I think there are several opportunities coming up. It's a great show - wonderful opening speech by Steve Martin...

Did anyone else think that Scully is looking a little, uh, hefty?
She started out this season looking great - quite a stunner - and I think she looks like she's carrying a few more pounds...
I don't know what's going on, but for me - the new server is much slower... pages load slowly, and transitions between pages are very slow. I'll keep you posted, but for now - no gold stars in my book.
