Yes. I didn't think that it had been released on Blu-ray, because all I saw at the store was the DVD version. I found the film problematic. I didn't mind the premise of setting it in an alternate earth. I also like that they set it closer to the time period of the book but with a higher level of technological advancement. There was some decent CGI done with both the Martian war machines and the Earth war machines,at least for a relatively low budget show. In fact, I'd say that is where the majority of the budget was used.

The biggest problem I found was the character development in that it felt like they were trying to give depth to the characters but kept coming up short. For example, they had a sub-plot where the woman in the picture supposedly starts having feelings of attraction for the main character, but it is developed and concluded in such a way that the whole exercise just feels like it was thrown in because doesn't every hero have some sort of romantic relationship by the time the movie ends? Also, the voice acting at times took on bombastic tones and speechifying that sort of made me roll my eyes.

The film is mostly action and the pacing between action set pieces is so quick that it feels like there is never enough time to develop the characters. It was like the makers had no confidence in the story and figured that throwing plenty of action in would make up for any weaknesses. All-in-all, if a person is just looking for an hour and a half of relatively non-stop alien on human and human on alien destruction then the film delivers. If a person is looking for a well-developed story with well-developed characters then this film isn't it in my opinion. To do the premise justice this film really would had to have been a TV series, so that some of the sub-plots could have been developed better.

Still, I always think it is better for someone to make up their own mind by seeing the film for themselves, especially as I'm not the best at reviewing. What I like in animated films doesn't seem to match up with the general consensus. For example, I liked "Chicken Little" and "Planes" but general belief is that those films are substandard filler. The general consensus is that FROZEN is a great film and I felt that it was only a little better than average. I'd probably still buy it because I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to Disney theatrical releases, but it would never be a favorite of mine.

Edit: Also, I should mention that the film isn't your typical 1980s GI JOE violence. People do die in the film; although, generally they are expendable ciphers. If I had known it had a 3D blu-ray release I might have tried harder to find it. Now, I'm curious what the 3D version looks like.

Great visuals, lame story and shamefully, no credit for H. G. Wells.

Picked it up today at Walmart. Great sound, 3D is good but there are no pop-out scenes.
