I didn't take that as what was being said at all. The friend said: "Hey, you left your sleeping pills out". She realized that she had not been taking sleeping pills. She was taking vicodin. She was taking House's vicodin that he had hid in the sleeping pills bottle. That's why she was having the messed up dreams. The dreams weren't telling her house was on Vicodin.. she realized the sleeping pills were giving her messed up dreams because they -were- vicodin. That's when she realized she couldn't make it work.

I don't agree with Joe that the dream sequences were filler, but his interpretation is correct. Cuddy was taking sleeping pills, which gave her messed up dreams. Rachel, when seeing pill bottles of all sorts, calls them candy -- which is why she has to be so careful about leaving pill bottles around. House was clean through most of the episode, but Cuddy's subconscious was reminding her that House is an addict. When House was unable to be at Cuddy's bedside, he relapsed in order to numb things enough to be there for her -- with the full intention of having it be a one time thing. But Cuddy, recognizing that House was unable to be there for her unmedicated, broke things off. That in turn triggered a full blown relapse.

Correct. The labels on the bottles were even different: Cuddy's had her name and "sleeping pills" on it, and House's had his name (who filled this perscription, or was it old and hidden?) and vicodin on it.
