To make this post simple here is what I want in a TV: great picture, flat screen, and 32". I want to spend around $1500 to $2000 and it is for my dorm room if that helps. If you need any other info just ask. I thank you in advance.

Sony's 32" Wega XBR400 was priced at $1995, I think the new XBR450 with 3/2 pulldown should be about the same price. This is an hdtv capable set that can display 1080i hdtv, or 480p from a progressive scan dvd. It also has Sony's DRC which converts regular 480i to 960i.
The set also will automatically "squeeze" anamorphic dvds.
Seems to fit your requirements perfectly.

I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they're properly run in.

I'll second the Sony WEGA range.
I've just bought a new KV32FX65 WEGA and it's FANTASTIC

The model and specs are probably different in the USA compared to the UK, but the general working bits will be the same.
