If you had just ONE dvd MOVIE to demo your home theater to your friends and neighbors what would it be? I know there is a short list and this has probably been hashed more than a few times, but I've just recently upgraded my system to DTS etc and am back in the business of buying more dvds.
In my opinion it is Saving Private Ryan DTS.
Others in my list are:
Toy Story 2
The Matrix
Gladiator
Titan AE
But to pick "ONE" it would have to be SPR.
My other "not a movie" demo would probably be the Dolby labs "We've got the whole world listening" DD demo dvd.
I'd like to hear your opinions.

The "Fever Dog" chapter in Almost Famous is a great demo scene.
Fight Club is also a good title to show off the home theater.

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

I've used many scenes from Jurassic Park (just so many great tones in the T-Rex roar and a nice sub workout)
I don't like SPR because it's such a tough emotional scene that it takes away from the fun factor.
My favorite has to be Heat. The initial scene is great because you get the deep semi engine roaring away, the load crash as it hits the armored car, and then the beautiful sound of the used car banner floating down. Plus you get some great sound on the explosion and the breaking glass from the shaped charge.
The bank heist is also a favorite because of the excellent internal sounds and echoing long range fire that's near constant. Cannot be beat in my mind.
So short answer is Heat!

Tunnel explosion from the DTS LD of Daylight

Why?
Why do you keep hounding me and harassing me and hounding me?
It's not like I don't have anything better to do, you know.
It's not like the Phantom Cruiser is going to wax itself.
It's not like last night's burrito stain will just up and remove itself from my cape.
I am a superhero!
A very very busy superhero! Who does...things!
Now get out of here before I tell your mother.
AND DON'T TRAMPLE MY BEGONIAS!

For sound, The Haunting-DTS does it for me. For video, I like X-Men and Bug's Life. To pick only one, I'd use X-Men.

The new Air Force One Superbit will be a demo disc for years to come. My current DD only version has always been the demo of choice.
So get the new disc! "Chapter 6 in DTS." Say it with me now! "Chapter 6 in DTS, Chapter 6 in DTS...." :)

I had some friends over this last weekend. I put in Titan A.E and showed the Ice Field scene. It is still my favorite demo.
The other one I show a lot is The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over. People tend to get a little overwhelmed with Titan A.E. rather quickly, whereas I can put The Eagles DVD on and people have a hard time taking their eyes, or more specifically, EARS off of the screen! Many people are just as impressed with the Eagles DVD as they are Titan A.E.!

Episode 1 is *the* sound demodisc.
The extended grid sequence and extended lap 2 found in deleted scenes are the most perfect demo material I've ever seen *and* heard! :)
