The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain!
If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

I'll pick up the Coen Bros. titles and Nikita season one on Blu-Ray after the appropriate price drops (it'll be great to finally have an anamorphic Raising Arizona).

Thanks for the roundup. Hope you're having a great vacation. Nothing for me this week. Won't be saying that again for a while with X Men First Class, Thor, Star Wars all coming up in just the first half of September.

This particular performance of Carmen may be the best film version ever made of an opera. I got the earlier DVD pressing which was released by Sony/Columbia-Tristar (#04879). This earlier pressing went OOP and has become a $$$$ collector's item on E-bay et al. It's shot on location in Andalusia at places like the bullfight ring in Ronda, with the singing and music presumably added via Foley later on. Highly recommended, especially for those people who wonder what an opera is all about.

'Papillon' Blu-ray Digibook - Amazon dropped the price today to $19.99 (from $26.99). Also: Clint Eastwood 10-movie BD collection at Amazon for $52.99 (until 9/3).

Thanks, Mike!

Hope the storms from Hurricane Irene haven't been a problem for you and others here... not to mention the earthquake in Virginia earlier in the week...

Yep, I have that DVD too and was thinking to put it on eBay to upgrade to the BD. Wonder if the BD's gonna be all that much better than the DVD though -- well, I imagine the audio should be better even if the PQ might not be. Will probably wait a bit though for a better price on the BD -- I'm willing to spend a bit more on a good opera on BD, but am not in a big rush to spend ~$30 on it.

Will probably get the Coen Brothers' films though not sure which way to go at the moment, ie. either the boxset or just the 3 sans Fargo from FoxConnect or maybe from B&N's site -- they have the better deals particularly if you can use coupons, etc.

The Criterion releases also look interesting, but will likely wait for the next B&N sale (probably in Nov) for them.

Cheers!

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone!

Irene has, indeed, been a real pain in the...side...during the past few days. Travel plans have been canceled and rearranged but we are finally on track and on target. I'm just picking up a few seconds of free WiFi from the hotel where we are staying for the night.

I am going to give early thanks to Adam for picking up the reins..completely...for next week's WRU.

I remember being fascinated by the Carmen title when it was first released. I'm not a fan of opera...but there was something about that production which seemed...accessible and interesting. I might give it a try sometime if I find a good deal on it.

Have fun everyone!

Thanks everybody

I too shall aquire that Carmen BD when I find it cheaper. I've never seen that particular film, but Carmen is one of my favorite operas.

The B&N site currently has the Coen Brothers Collection BD set knocked down to $41.99 (along w/ a ton of other price changes for their new sale).

If you have B&N membership, that means you can knock it down to $33.99 w/ their regularly available $8-off-$40 coupon (code is J4Y3A3J). If you don't have membership, you can probably get a free 2-month trial membership on the site (unless you've already done that before).

And w/ a ton of price knockdowns in their latest sale (mainly for titles that are not new/recent/upcoming day-and-date releases), it may also be easy enough to make use of the $5-off-$50-total part of that stacked coupon code -- yep, it's a multi-offer coupon, and you just need to add another ~$16 of purchase to the order, which could be books and/or CDs as well, as long as it's not a preorder item.

Also, if you use a Discover Card for the purchase, you can still get 15% cashback via Discover's shop-online portal.

I just went ahead and ordered the Coen Bros set + Good Will Hunting ($11.99) + Friday Night Lights ($5.99) for ~$47+tax. Yeah, I already have Fargo, but this actually costs less than getting them separately w/ some other coupon (or from somewhere else). Almost went w/ Big Lebowski for the additional title (at $17.99), but GWH + FNL made the better deal for me -- I'll wait some more for BL.

If you really only want the individual titles (and/or won't have B&N membership), B&N still has the best deal (by a slight bit) if you use whichever other coupon, eg. the regularly available 10%-off-entire-purchase coupon (current code Y3Y7P3C). In that case, if you're a member, you *might* also consider waiting til Friday to see if there are some more 20%-off coupons coming although there's a chance that the prices may go up slightly by then (since those are currently listed at 45%-off-list vs their advertised 40%-off sale).

Happy bargain hunting!

There are apparently new coupon codes available now for B&N -- some 20%-off members-only and some 10-to-15%-off ones for anyone else:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-bargains/533548-barnes-noble-coupon-thread-part-2-a.html

For non-members, the 10%-off-entire-purchase coupon may still be best since you'd probably need to order 2 or 3 sale priced titles to get free shipping.

I take it the Nikita still is a publicity shot, and not in any actual episode -- if I am wrong and it is in the show itself -- which episode?

Anyone see The Twlight Zone S5 blu ray at any B&M stores at anything near Amazon's $48 price? I think Target has it for about $71.00, not exactly sure.
