Personally I don't consider Little Mermaid or Pocohontas to officialy have been released on DVD because the picture quality on both is so horribly bad that they are unwatchable IMO on any large-screen system.

Truly shockingly bad grain that was NOT present in any theatrical presentation makes it look like you're watching the movie through a swarm of flying insects.

What gives?

besides...they need to be 16x9...

I have the R1 Little Mermaid Limited Edition and yes the grain is distracting.

However I have the R2 Pocohontas and cannot remember any grain issues when watching. Why would their be grain on the R1 version?

Hopefully, it will at least have the same specs as its Region 4 counterpart....

Water birds - A Walt Disney True Life Adventure
Cartoon Short - Three Blind Mousketeers
Sing-Along Song - "Someone's Waiting For You"
Toon Disney - Under The Hat Villians
THE RESCUERS Scrapbook
Set-Top-Game - The Ultimate Case

Nice to hear the R2 Pocohontas is better. It *really* is incredibly bad in R1. Don't know why...but it is!

BTW, is it 16x9 in R2?

Just checked: No it's not anamorphic. The picture displays slight evidence of grain, not no where near as bad as The Little Mermaid. I wouldn't have noticed it unless I was looking (Note: I've only sampled a short segment)

If does have a range of supplements though:

The Making of Pocahontas (TV Special)
Multi-Language Reel "Colours of the Wind"
"Follow Your Heart" Interactive Adventure
Production:
-- Character Design (VHS of Glenn Keane lecturing)
-- The Music of Pocahontas
-- Storyboard to Film Comparison
-- Abandoned Concept "In The Middle of the River"
-- Deleted Sequence/Song "If I Never Knew You"

Isn't there some negative hub-bub about the OAR of the upcoming The Absent-Minded Professor DVD?

It's not upcoming, it's out.

It wasn't in the original widescreen, it was fullframe.

It wasn't in the original black-and-white, it was colorized.

Bastardized all the way 'round, if ya' ask me.

The specs listed on Disney's website suggest that our disc will be identical to the Brazil/Mexico DVDs released.
