Add me to the list of folks that would buy this day one.

I've gotten to the point where I watch Sabrina instead because we have it on Blu-ray. Roman Holiday is the only top tier Audrey Hepburn film I don't have on a decent Blu-ray. (I have had the new Blu-ray version of MFL pre-ordered, like the rest of you, since September 2014.)

It's always surprised me that "Roman Holiday" never got released around the same time that "Tiffany's", "Sabrina" and "Funny Face" were. Hopefully we won't have much longer to wait.

I am glad that they waited and now have a hopefully excellent digital source instead of relasing it in subpar quality like they did with Funny Face.

The film is being shown in theaters on November 29 and December 1, so I wonder if this "restoration" is what they're showing?

I'm also curious as to what kind of restoration it is.

And, of course, where is the Blu? We finally got My Fair Lady, so where is Roman Holiday?

I would have to think that the screenings on November 29 and December 1 would have to be for promotion of a blu-ray release that they probably just haven't released a press release for yet.

The Fathom Event was promoting an upgrade to the iTunes versions that will be available on Tuesday.

I went to the Fathom Event theater showing. Excellent movie, of course. I couldn't tell that the restoration was jaw-dropping. But it seemed to be of new theatrical quality on a big theater screen. I suppose that is a strict test.

For the new Blu-ray release from Paramount: " About the restoration: The original negative was processed at a local film lab in Rome and was unfortunately badly scratched and damaged. The film had to be pieced back together, but the splices were so weak due to the damage that extensive amounts of tape had to be used to allow the negative to make it through a printing machine. Because of the fragile state of the negative, a Dupe Negative was made and then blown up a few thousandths of an inch to cover all the splice tape that held the original negative together. "
What does that first line mean? A 'local film lab' processed the neg in 1952 or as part of the resto? Either way, whaat??

According to original production notes, it was processed at Ray & Irwin’s, just outside of Rome. “Your film delivered in 60 minutes, or it’s free!”

Did they also restore all the colors? I just watched an apparently unrestored version on CBS All Access the other day... ;)

Wonder if anyone ever tried to sue the studios for false advertising. They keep presenting such classics in often extremely vibrantly colorful posters and cover art. I had never seen any part of this one before, and indeed, felt a bit let down (at least at first)...
