After his film festival he isn't shying away from further public appearances. He and his wife attended the Chicago premiere of The Color Purple Thursday night.

You're a class act, Will.

And an astounding diagnostician, I might add.

No need for attacks. I hope Ebert fully recovers, I say what I said because it seems like in the media it's always "Prognosis great, doing fine" then before you know it, the person dies. Like Dana Reeve or Aaron Spelling for example. Sorry for not sugar coating.

I work for the airlines and recently had him as a passenger on one of my flights. I spoke with his wife and he is cancer free. The major issues were due to the complications after the surgery for bone reconstruction. His wife told me that they will have the sugery again after he is 100% recovered from those complications.
It was startling to see him at first, but he was in great spirits and was able to write reponses to my questions.

I hope he fully recovers, just like it seems to be.

(And thanks, Ken, for bringing that news.)

After reading so many of his reviews, of his witty articles and some of his smaller books, I decided to strongly vote for him with my wallet. Most of the time I don't have to pay anything for reading a review (and I find reading them invariably to my advantage and joy, even if I occasionally do not fully agree with his verdict - which is a normal thing, BTW), while he lives from his pen.

So I decided to buy several of his books recently, older ones as well as newer. My new HT will be ready in a few months, and a special cabinet is reserved for film-related works, so I figure his volumes will fit there very well.

At the moment I'm reading "Your Movie Sucks". I had read the article and the story behind the title he chose for that book before, but it's still hilarious. I really love that sort of wit.

It's my win, actually: I now have 7 more big fat books I like to own very much, about my number one hobby: movies.

as well. Looks like he's slowly but surely starting to ramp things back up again.
So great to see him reviewing again. Just isn't the same without him. Go, Roger! :)

BTW, I changed the title to reflect the fact that it's not about him needing another surgery now.

you know, he does need more surgery.
only to fix his jaw not for cancer.

Roger Ebert posted a review of The Departed this week because he was still recovering from surgery when it was released:

I'm really glad he did, because this movie and Casino Royale were the two I was most disappointed he could not review last year. I'm still curious about what his thoughts on Casino Royale are, but at least his thoughts on The Departed are no longer a mystery.
P.S. I posted this story in this thread because I couldn't find the thread for The Departed when I did a search.

It certainly didn't feel right without Ebert's review on a Scorsese film. I too am glad he got to this as well. I would love to read what he thought about Casino Royale (if he has seen it, that is). Perhaps you could email Ebert at the newspaper and just ask him? He might just give you a quick summary, but at least we would have an idea of his thoughts. :)
It's very good to see him back reviewing.

Good review, the complete absence of any reference to Whalberg or his character is puzzling.

I noticed he also recently reviewed Transformers, and thus reminded me why I love his reviews so much. He gave it 3 stars.

He says
"I think Michael Bay sometimes sucks ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon," "Bad Boys II") but I find it possible to love him for a movie like "Transformers." It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good, and it has the grace not only to realize how preposterous it is, but to make that into an asset.".

Especially since Wahlberg gave arguably the best performance in the film (and the only one that was Oscar nominated)!
