I've made a ton of blind buys, but have cut back lately due to some really bad results. However, one of my most recent blind buy was Chicago, and I thought it was fantastic. Most of my foreign films have been blind buys, and most of them turned out well.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread. I buy a lot of disks blindly and I am usually pleased.
Today I got one that I fell in love with: Six-String Samurai.
Totally weird off-beat movie that is a blast to watch.
What have you guys gotten recently?

DDDs 20% off sale was a good opportunity for me to pick up a lot of titles i was curious about but was hesitiating on.

Coup De Torchon (Criterion) turned out to be a film i really enjoyed, and will be hanging on to for at least one or two more viewings.

The Lady Vanishes was also very entertaining, which surprised me as i am not a big fan of Hitchcocks. This will be a keeper for a while also.

Solaris (soderbergh) was probably my favorite blind buy in 2003. the film just hit me the right way on every level.
great transfer as well.

Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter- Excellant in every respect!

Sweet Charity was a pleasant surprise, although a bit taxing.

Alias i had never watched before, but am enjoying on disc

The Omega Man enjoyed it much more than i expected.
it's a keeper.

The Two Towers EE I was a latecomer to the LOTR mania, and avoided this in the theater.

Blind purchases that i haven't got around to watching yet:

Sorry, Wrong Number
Beach Blanket Bingo
Written On The Wind
The Fassbinder BRD Trilogy
The Lon Chaney Collection (saw Laugh, Clown, Laugh- much more entertaining than i expected and the newly composed musical score was sublime- looks to have been a worthwhile purchase)
The Scarlet Claw
Calamity Jane
You'll Never Get Rich
Treasure Of The Sierra Madre
The Courtship Of Eddies Father
Whale Rider
Darling

upcoming Blind purchases i'm looking forward to;
The Wind & The Lion
Days Of Wine And Roses
Born To be Bad
Microcosom
Lost In Translation
American Splendor

Only two:

Legend, which was severely disapointing.
Shogun, which I knew I would love, and did.

I do plan on buying The Usual Suspects, which I have not seen, Rockky Horror Picture Show, Creepshow, and a host of others, but first I need to pick up a couple Disney titles before they go out of print.

WOW!
And I thought I bought a lot blindly!
I can comment on a few of yours:
Solaris - Also a blind purchase for me, loved it. Now I want to see the original.
Captain Kronos - another blind buy, a lot of fun, I have been getting into a lot of Hammer stuff lately.
Alias - I've loved this since the first ep. I still need to pick up S2
Omega Man - I liked this too, I actually liked the first filmed version: The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price.
LOTR: TT - Excellent choice I've seen all 3 opening night. Quite an experience

Treasure of the Sierra Madre, blind buy, haven't watched yet
Whale Rider - watched for the 1st time the other night, Beautiful.

I saw Lost in Translation and American Splendor on the big screen, Both are amazing, especially Translation.
I plan on Microcosm too.

Others that I have bought blind in '04 alone:
Lord of the Flies(Criterion)
Black Dragon (aka Miracles)
Wasabi
Six String Samurai
Body Melt
The Good Thief
Bark Blue
Simone
City by the Sea
Ballistic

Rocky Horror is an experience. I would love to see this on the big screen.
Creepshow is pretty cool and can be found pretty cheaply too.

Shogun is will worth picking up. I have read the book several times, and had been waiting years to see the mini series. I had seen the severely abridged two hours version, which was pitiful...

But the mini series is superb. TV production values, but a good cast (would have prefered someone like sean connery as blackthorn. The DVD release is of excellent quality too, right down to the packaging.

Anyway, sorry to take this off topic...

One more blind buy I just though of:

Never Say Never Agiain, which I have not yet watched.

I added a few more for Christmas, and loved them all.

Cleopatra
The French Connection
Spartacus: Criterion
Seabiscuit

I also got Band of Brothers, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'm pretty sure I'll love it, though.

My blind buys:
Seabiscuit - love this movie
Matrix - I was worried at first but ended up loving the movie. I can't say the same for the sequels unfortunately.
The Mummy - a fun movie
The Mummy Returns - If I had rented it, I probably wouldn't have bought it.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - fun.
We Were Soldiers - love this movie
Underworld - so-so buy.

Welcome to the club Did you know that the director is now doing the latest "Crow" movie? I wish him luck, hope it turns out as fun as SSS.
I knew another Crow was being made, didn't know he was doing it, gives me more hope for the project! The Crow is my favorite movie and I have liked the 2nd and 3rd to varying degrees. I bought Salvation blind and thought they did a pretty good job with it.

currently 332 disks in my collection were blind buys.

Some of my favorite blind buys are.....

2001: A Space Odyssey-Never ever saw this movie until I bought it in 2001. Now I view it atleast once a year.
Ben-Hur-See above.
Dark City
Grave of the Fireflies--Caught wind of this over in one of the Anime threads in early March. Watched 3 times since.
Lawrence of Arabia--My 2nd favorite film behind the "Ten Commandments"
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring--I never understood what all the hoopla was about this film till I bought and watched it for the 1st time. Now I see why.
Me, Myself & Irene--Bought this used for $5 bucks. One of the funniest movies I've had the pleasure of watching.

And now for some I wished I had seen before I bought them.

Daredevil--What was I smoking?????
Star Wars Episode II--Only reason this sits in my collection is the awesome sound on this DVD, otherwise it would still be sitting in the store.
Dante's Peak--Another what was I smoking???

Dark City is an Amazing movie, as is Grave of the Fireflies.

Possibly my worst blind buy ever was Iron Monkey 2. I've tried a few times, but I can't make it all the way through it!
