My one and only blind buy was Suspiria, which I really enjoyed.

I don't buy very much to begin with as renting is much more economical for me. And when I do buy it's something that I know for sure I want either for rewatchability or for collecting.

If I had $60 lying around waiting to be spend, I'd blind buy Eraserhead. Sadly, the money tree seeds I planted in my back yard haven't sprouted yet...

Of my collection I'd say that 95% of it has been bought blind. I have a pretty good sense of what I'll enjoy just from general reading, reviews and lurking here and on Mobius. The only ones I truly regret are the ones where I was talked into it by HTF posts going on about the reference audio or visuals---e.g., Lost in Space. Surely less than 1% though.

When I started reading this thread I thought to myself, "Oh I hardly ever buy movies I've never seen.", but after thinking about it a bit it turns out that I actually do it quite often (although certainly not as often as many of you ;) ). Here are the ones I've "bought blind":

Chinatown - My most recent blind purchase. A great movie.
Citizen Kane
Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy - I bought this Kevin Smith 3-pack because I loved Dogma, and had heard very good things about Clerks. I was not dissapointed, and it turns out I saved quite a bit of money compared to the cost of buying them all individually.
Fantasia 2000 - I bought the Anthology, but had only seen the original Fantasia.
Grave of the Fireflies
Moulin Rouge - Ron and the HTF are the reason I bought this one.
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away

Looking at the list, I'm quite happy with my blind purchases.

Signs, Bourne Identity, Minority Report, Legends of the fall, Blade 2, Harry Potter, Gangs of New York, Monsters Inc, Both Toy Stories, Shrek, . Recent ones I can remember, happy with them all.

I'd my blind purchase rating is very good. I don't go out on too many limbs though.

Good Blind Buys:
-Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone
-Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
-Pump up the Volume
-The Chubb Chubbs
-True Romance : 2 Disc Special Edition
-Vertical Limit : Superbit

Bad Blind Buys:
-Demolition Man
-Predator 2
-XXX

I don't buy too many blind ones. Usually I've seen the movie or parts of it to justify buying it. My next blind buy may be DareDevil.

While technically not a "blind" purchase, I did buy the first 4 seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer one night after watching only one episode that afternoon on the FX channel. I never seen a single "Buffy" episode before this, but the episode I saw ("Hush") had me hooked! Anyway, I took the chance, bought all 4 seasons, and consider it one of the best purchases I've made yet. And because of "Buffy...", I also blindly bought the Angel: Season 1 DVD too without seeing a single episode. I'm happy to say it was another excellent decision on my part! :D

Great Blind Buys:

Fitzcarraldo
My Best Fiend
La Belle Captive
Burden of Dreams
The Re-Animator
Opera
Terror Firmer
Don't Look Now
Rebecca
Little Dieter Needs to Fly
Lessons of Darkness

Bad Blind Buys:

The Thing From Another World
Breathless
Heart of Glass
Gesualdo

Movies I almost bought blind, but rented first:

Once Upon a Time in America (Hated hated hated this film. Glad I didn't buy it. No offense to those that like it, just wasn't my cup of tea.)

I'll pretty much buy anything that has Werner Herzog's name attached to it. Also if it's Horror + Anchor Bay I'm strongly compelled to buy it. I usually research a title pretty well before I buy it, so I'll have a general idea of what I'm getting. I also lean towards Ebert's tastes.

I've done a lot of blind purchases...usually based on good reviews from the Bits or if its a Criterion disc.

Blind purchases I was not happy with regardless of title usually came from Artisan or the Wal-Mart "so cheap that a McDonald's meal is more expensive" DVD bin.

Some of my recent blinds are:
Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo
The Dark Crystal
Jim Hensen's Storyteller
The Black Angel
My Schoolmate the Barbarian
Volcano High
Voices of a Distant Star
Roger Dodger
Avalon
Returner
Versus
Irreversible
Unfaithful
Solaris
Spider
I also have an order in for a 10 pack of Shaw Bros kung fu flicks, all but 1 I have never seen, also on that order is Musa: The Warrior, also unseen...

I buy a lot blind, usually I do a lot of research, reading reviews and looking up opinions before making a final decision. I usually do pretty good, the only ones I can think of that were big disappointments (and I should have known better going in) were Black Mask 2 and Old School, both are downright dreadful (Except for Will Ferrell, he was OK).

I got Gangs of NY on a blind buy from Blockbuster for $11.95 and I just watched it. I liked it very much. Worth the $$.
