I have the privilage of purchasing and putting together a high end sound system for a friend of mine. This system will be mainly used for karaoke. He is the type of person who wants the best of the best. I have a $5000 budget but if i excede it is ok. Here is what I have to work with. The room is pre-wired for sound. In all 4 corners there is an electrical plug in, 16 guage speaker wire and coax cable, all run to behind his bar. The speakers will be mounted near the ceiling on the wall. He has a laptop with the karaoke program on it and will be setup behind the bar. the words will be projected somehow onto a 50" plasma on the wall across the room. He also has a 4 channel mixer behind the bar as well.I would like some suggestions on what model speakers to buy as well as what type of amplifier to buy. The amp needs to be very good and will also be powering blu-ray players in adjacent rooms. The speakers are my biggest concern. These need to be top of the line extremely good sound quality and wall mountable. I'm also not sure if coax or speaker wire is the way to go. I'm a little concerned the speaker wire is only 16 guage. The mic's are 2 cordless shure sm58's i believe. I also need to ensure that there is no feedback as he would not be happy. I really need to come through for this guy, any help would be great. Thanks.

Since you haven't had a response to your post I'll take a shot... With your budget you can certainly get some great gear. Since you are putting them on the wall, you will want speakers designed to be on the wall. It also sounds like you will not be including a sub so you will want speakers that cover the low end. I would look for a receiver with the connections you need for the laptop. Something in the $500-700 range should be sufficient. Look at brands like Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, and Yamaha. For the speakers, go to local hi-fi shops and see what you like. Then take a look at internet only companies like (my favorite) Axiom. For your situation it may work out, but as a general rule, you should not put speakers near the ceiling. "High end sound" and ceiling mounted speakers do not go together. :D Also, I'm not sure formats you will be feeding into the system from the laptop, but keep in mind that lossy formats like MP3 will sound worse on better speakers.

That's like going to a sports car forum and saying you want the best sports car on the road and you have $20,000 to spend. A "best of the best" system will blow your budget on the cables alone.

Behringer Feedback Destroyer. It's a pro audio piece of equipment designed to scan the frequencies looking for feedback and stopping it. I know it is compatible with normal home audio because I run one as a parametric EQ for my sub. I have no idea how well they work in stopping feedback but they have been around for years so they must sell pretty good.
