Also, You can only create on char per server, right, but can you create more then one character and have them on different servers?

Yes you sure can Nick. You can one one character on each server. Now get off this board and go create a character on Starsider and join Chris and I:). The more the merrier.

Also, in an effort to be fair here because Sony Online has taken a great amount of flack from many players (and damn did they deserve it for that ridiculous launch!) and especially from me as a beta tester who felt this game had no business being launched early.

I just wanted to give a kudo over to Sony Online for getting the servers fairly stable today and getting people in game. There is still a lot that needs to be done to make this game truly great. A lot of systems needs fixing and a lot of content needs added but its a plus on thier side that they hammered out these server issues in a timely fashion.

Well picked up the Collector's Edition...nice package...

Been beta-testing it for awhile, got the retail, much better installation and upgrades, less buggy and cpu intensive as previous.

Still laggy as hell, or my cpu can't handle it. I'm on the cusp of the minimum requirement. :frowning: (For the time being...*heh heh*...upgrading real soon).

Currently, I have a Wookie Marksman (Advanced Skill) in Azahi/Ahazi server. Name is Chomy. Will help anyone who needs xps. Gonna aim to be a Commando so I can fire those great rocket launchers. :) Now all I need is a highly skilled weaponsmith to make me one. :P

I picked the regular version of the game up on Saturday. Installed it with no problems and was able to create a character on Starsider. My character is J'Mison Cyn, a Marksman, on Tatooine (Mos Espa?). I hope I can meet up with some HTF people, though my playing time will me mostly late night Pacific time :frowning:. I played for about 4 hours that first night and was overall pretty pleased with the experience. The tutorial is pretty dry and potentially off-putting (it almost put my older brother to sleep). Once you get into the game things pick up a lot. I still don't have a very good sense of direction, but I guess just following the waypoint indicators will help. Grouping seems to be almost required in order to get any decent experience. Just be careful who you group with - I ended up getting some negative faction points with townspeople (not what I would choose) and Jabba (which is ok with me). In all those hours of playing I didn't actually get a single piece of loot. That was mostly by my choice though. Fortunately a couple of the guys I was playing with were nice enough to set me up with a Rifle, Intermediate Pistol, and all (I think) the languages. I could really benefit from a better video card (using a GeForce 2 MX...ugh) and processor (P3 1 GHz). I'm not really a big MMORPG player but I found this experience to be pretty fun.

Well, I played off and on all weekend. I had a lot of fun. I find that I could use a faster computer too :D The bugs weren't to bad. Twice Saturday my roommate and I were kicked off (said: "Connection to SWG Lost"). And both times we lost everything we'd done up till that point (about an hours worth each time). However, other than that, and some minor graphical bugs, things went very smooth.

I was pretty frustrated at first trying to learn how to do things, and how the skills worked, but the people in the game are really good about helping a new guys figure stuff out (I'm not sure why, but I expected a lot of 1337 players who couldn't be bothered to help a new guy). So after a couple hours I had all that figured out and went adventuring.

The missions are pretty appropriate to character level. Saturday I grouped with one other mostly. He was a Brawler/Scout, and I was a Medic/Marksman. Those two combinations really seemed to compliment each other well because we were easily able to complete all our missions and gain experience quickly.

I cant think of anything else to say. Overall it was quite a bit better than I was expecting. It was more fun and there were less bugs than the Beta Testers let me to believe. I'm glad I got it and cant wait to get off work so I can play some more :D

PS. I'll try to hookup with the rest of the HTF team on Starsider when I get a chance!!

I grabbed Galaxies as well, and really enjoy it so far. Graphically the game is incredible. There looks like enough to do for me, a casual player, as the team adds more content. Now to choose which class to play as ;-).

Romier,
Excellent Post! When I said that it was better than the beta testers led me to believe what I meant was that I had fun playing, and the bugs didn't get in the way of that for the most part. I agree with all the stuff you said. Most of it I didn't even know existed (the GroupXP issue and Faction exploit for example). So Thats probably why they didn't bother me that much.

I read this thread on release day. I got from it that the game would be almost unplayable it was so bad. It was like hearing how much a movie sucks, then seeing it and finding that it was quite a bit better than you'd been led to believe.

I'd like to say however, as a software developer myself, it is ridiculous that software houses are shipping these games with so many bugs. Its because of people like me (I bought Galaxies even knowing there were a lot of bugs) that they keep the doing this. When will I learn? :b

Cant wait to play with you guys, but it probably wont be till later in the week. You guys play at all around 8pm-Midnight Pacific time?

Rob, thats almost exactly what I have. I have a GeForce 3 Ti200 (is that the same as you?). PIV 1.8, 512MB.

I have almost all the graphical things turned off, and graphical sliders turned down. Its still a litte choppy in town, but out in the wild its fine. Its definatly playable with your setup. This game makes me think I need a new video card now, rather then when HL2 comes out :D

Marshall - I'll try to hook up with you tonight, though it may only be for an hour or so. What planet are you on?

Regarding Grouping vs Soloing... As I said before, the time I played in group allowed us to go out and do some destroy missions. I could not imagine doing those on my own, at least not at the point I am at currently. From what I understand, if you get missions while soloing they will be ramped down in difficulty. Is this correct? Also, what are some of the better types of armor/weapons to be on the lookout for?

EDIT: re: Video cards
Rob could probably benefit from moving up to a GeForce 4 4200 (or better, the 4200 is just a pretty good bargain IMO). I'm sure it would help Marshall as well, but not quite as much. You need to pony up for an FX 5600! :)

The ATI 9500 and 9600 are both better performers in SWG (Ive tested all three cards via the help of various amigos:)) and also the 9500 is very cheap and easy to find. In fact out of anything I'd recommend the 9500 (it also outperforms the 9600). Its a bargain and a great card. Either of the three cards are DirectX9 capable cards so they will do nicely, just sharing some personal observations.

Only Nvidia card I'd "pony up" for right now is the 5900 Ultra. Its one hell of a card (and man is it impressive in person!). In fact I'm selling my 9700pro right now for 200 clams if anyones interested. Its almost new (traded in for a new one about a month and a half ago). The only other decision I have to make is which card to throw another 200 bucks at...The 5900 Ultra or the 256mb 9800 pro. I could never actually just bust out and spend 400+ beans on a vid card, but if I sell my current one I dont mind lobbing another 200 or so and getting me one of the current big boys on the market! Decisions..Decisions...

Hmmm, I've heard good things about the 9500 as well (seems to be a better card than the low-end FX 5200's). I wasn't trying to pimp the nvidia card, just meant that a move to a GeForce 4 4200 wouldn't have the same "wow" factor for Marshall as it would for Rob. If I had $200 I'd actually consider taking you up on your 9700...

BTW, Romier, did you ever make a character on Starsider? What did your name end up being?

Late to the party, but yes I did buy it. Char is Marrinykk on Radiant.

First day was a disaster. Second day was a slightly smaller disaster. Third day was good, until late in the evening when another problem cropped up. Yesterday was pretty smooth. All in all, 3 days to stability ranks in the better half of MMOG launches (note that the bar is pretty low :) ).

I'm having fun so far, and the only bugs that have actually affected my gameplay were
1. UI not saving (now fixed)
2. Mission waypoints changing location (annoying, but not gamebreaking)

Romier - I'll try looking you up tonight. Hope you're on :).

Out of curiosity, just how far have people been able to develop their characters so far? I've got Intermediate Pistol, qualify for Intermediate Rifle, and almost qualify for the first skill on the far right Marksman tree (Specialist or something like that???). I'm leaning towards working on some Scout skills, and maybe picking up some Artisan.
