The house I just bought has the following setup: tv in corner, 2 speakers about 6-7 ft high in wall in front, 1 center speaker in ceiling, 2 surround speakers in back in the ceiling, 2 passive in wall subs in front just above the wall. Was advised that a powered sub would provide better sound. When connecting to a receiver I just purchased, what do I call or hook the passive subs to if going with a 7.1 setup or should I just not use them at all and go with a 5.1 setup. Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, the new receiver is a Denon AVR-791.

You should connect them through a sub amp. Wattage depends entirely on the details of the sub. Does your receiver allow you to reconfigure two channels into powered sub channels?
