Ok i ordered this home theater system,
Yamaha YHT-695BL $490
it comes on monday, however my friend is telling me to return it and buy a receiver separate and order polk speakers instead.
he also says a 2.1 or 3.1 would suit me better for the way my bedroom is vs's a 5.1.
sorry for dirty room =.
he suggests just getting this setup,
Polk Audio Monitor30 or Polk Audio Monitor50 (2) or Polk Audio Monitor60 (2)
+
Polk Audio CS1 Series II
+
Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10
however i was thinking of just purchasing this,
Polk Audio Monitor70 (2)
+
Polk Audio CS2 Series II
and just going 3.0 instead of 3.1? heard the 70's had good bass without a sub but im not sure if the recievers im looking at can even power them properly, ONKYO TX-NR616 & YAMAHA RX-V473BL
system will only be used for movies, tv shows no music, just seeing what you think would be best considering my room layout with 3.0, 3.1 and 5.1 choices. thanks

Not even close. If you like action movies you will have special effects below 20hz. You couldn't even properly play back that low in the 70's on consumer equipment.
Spend a little more on the sub and get a BIC F-12.

You can save a lot by buying last years model or a factory refurbished one like the Denon 1612 ($169) http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1612/DENON-AVR-1612-5.1-Channel-A/V-Home-Theater-Receiver/1.html
Or some other model http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/AVReceiver/Home-Audio/Home-Theater-Receivers/1.html
You can add an extended warranty if you like. 3 years @$35 or 5 years @ $50.
Then get some Monitor 40's instead of the Monitor 70's and the BIC F12 like Robert suggested ($215 shipped) http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=303-436
You can still take advantage of a 5.1 setup in a smaller room. Maybe 2 pairs of M 30's and the CS2. Or add the surrounds later.
