And the Jorja news broke about two weeks ago (she didn't want Grissom and Sara split up again). I had missed that news.
I have to say that's a cool move on Jorja Fox's part. She passed up a lot of money to stay true to the character(s). Yeah, she's already rich but many people would have taken the money.

I caught up with the finale last night! Well done season! Wix’s plan wasn’t entirely telegraphed through out the season as to why he was framing Hodges. It was more clear in the scene between Wix and Hodges. I liked how they figured it all out in the end to nail Wix and find Hodges.

I did not know that Peterson wasn’t planning to return for the second season. That’s too bad. But the way the story was initially set-up, I sort of had this feeling Grissom was only planning to be there to help clear Hodges and the lab. So it’s also too bad Sara will not return. I didn’t see it coming that Marg Helgenberger would return! That is a good move. I have not tried to understand what her role would be. It couldn’t be the person who runs the lab as Paula Newsome has that job. I’ll be interested to check out the second season. I like the new cast too.

I think last we heard of Catherine, she owned the casino inherited from her father, and was working for the FBI. If that’s still the case, easy enough to throw in a line about how this new case is so big they need outside help, etc.

Thanks Josh, it’s been a while since I’ve watched CSI so I’d forgotten about Catherine’s connection to the casino. I did recall she went to the FBI. I’m thinking she’s no longer with the FBI. But we’ll see.

Perhaps there can be some FaceTime segments between Catherine and Grissom and Sara during the season to exchange thoughts about the serial killer.

It had been reported towards the end of production of the first season of this new show that Petersen had collapsed from exhaustion on set and needed to be taken to the hospital for medical attention. It was said he recovered fully, fortunately. But between that and a cursory look over his recent credits and it seems that excepting CSI, he hadn’t been working regularly on stage or screen since about 2015. My uninformed take is that he’s enjoying a well earned semi-retirement and I’d guess another season long commitment isn’t something he’d be interested in.

For me, he makes the show so I would be delighted to see him in any context. But I was also never expecting this show to have happened so I feel ive already gotten my impossible wish once. I don’t expect him to return in the future but I sure would love to be wrong.

Is anyone watching season 2, currently airing on CBS?
Yep, I dig it but I'm kinda surprised at the lack of Willows (I haven't seen the most recent episode yet). I'm guessing that if there's a third season, they may be planning on none of the 'classic' cast. The new characters are likable so focusing entirely on them and not leaning on the older series characters may be a good move.

Same here. I'm adjusting to the new cast and basically like them, but Catherine's in-and-out appearances are kind of annoying. She doesn't really seem to be part of the team since she's heading her own investigation.

I just saw this week’s new episode and it looks like that will change going forward - it seems like they rushed a finish to Catherine’s side story and it felt wrapped up faster than expected. I wonder if that was always the plan or if the showrunners felt the story wasn’t working.

I’m mostly enjoying this revival but it hasn’t really hooked me the way the original did. It’s missing that wry sense of humor, that winking glance that it had during the first seven or so seasons. It’s not quite as clever, the cases aren’t as good and I feel like it’s missing that intangible fun element. I think I was hoping the revival would feel more like the early years but it’s feeling more like a continuation of where the vibe was when the show ended.

The difference for me is I can think of many early episodes I’d be happy to revisit again right now and I can’t really think of any new episodes I’m longing to see again.

For me it comes down to the original cast: they were tremendous and irreplaceable with Petersen completely believable as a brainiac who could lead the team and also do field work and brandish a gun if needed. The new team is okay, but I cared about every one of those original people in the lab, even the ballistics expert who was only on a recurring contract.

One other thing that sets the original CSI apart in my mind: it was among the first shows I ever saw in high definition with my first (42-inch) Toshiba set. The production values were so outstanding for the show that I couldn't wait to watch it every week in glorious HD (and the stereo sound piped through my system also gave it a movie-like feel).

All this original CSI discussion reminded me of Warrick and the other CSIS under Grissom. we know the fate of Sara and Catherine. I remember Warrick’s unfortunate fate and he sort of had a short flirtation with Catherine. And i recall how Sanders went from lab rat to the field. And how the job burned out Nick. And then there was Simms who Hodges had a thing for. Great cast for sure.

Checking in to see if anyone is still watching this - I have no idea what the ratings are. I realized the last time I watched was around February so I have a few episodes I could go to, but I'm surprised at my disinterest. I was so excited for the show to return when they announced the first season of the revival, but this second season just hasn't been doing it for me. The new cast seem perfectly pleasant but I'm not really connecting with any of those characters in the way I did with the originals. It's nice to see Catherine again, but the original show left her in a good place and I'm not thrilled with the idea that she now has trouble with both her casino inheritance and her daughter - kinda disappointing to see her happy ending negated. And the mysteries seem less interesting than they used to. It brings me no joy to be so critical of something I once loved so dearly, but I think the love affair may be over for me.

I'm still watching and enjoying it but I still need to catch the last three episodes of the season. I'm glad the show is on and I hope it comes back next season but clearly, if I'm still three episodes behind, it's not something that I'm anxiously awaiting each week.

I’ve been meaning to watch the new season. My lack of immediacy was due to Grissom and Sara not being part of the show anymore. Unless I’m mistaken. I think that I still think the show is a Paramount+ show, so I can see it anytime. :)

Its actually a genuine old-fashioned over the air CBS show (who knew such a thing still existed??), but all episodes do show up on Paramount+ the day after broadcast. :)
