That's the standard version guaranteed. If you go to bestbuy. Com and do a search you can check individual stores if they stock a particular title. I use it all the time. If it's not on the website they don't carry it
That's the old Blu-Ray version.Vic Pardo said:Here's the email message I sent to the Best Buy near my office:

$14.99?! That would be amazing--if it were true!
I tried to find this Blu-ray on their website to see what price is actually given, but it's not there at all.
Well, I did specify the Criterion version in my email. That should tell you something about their level of customer service.Wayne_j said:That's the old Blu-Ray version.
As wonderful as this release is, it would've been even more wonderful with a Smilebox edition included. Wish I had one of those Dave Strohmaier Smilebox processors.Strohmaier said:I ran this for myself a few nights ago - what a wonderful cinematic experience this new Criterion edition is! So having seen it multiple times in 70mm at the Cinerama Dome on the big curved 90 foot screen, I decided to process several scenes for the SmileBox format for my home screen and WOW I was fully transported back to November of 1963 for the original Cinerama showings. All the aerials and action shots have that Cinerama thrill, you are there, feeling to them. Such a treat!
Next stop Khartoum!
I bought a multi region player in order to watch the region one locked THE ROBE when Fox first released that and which, remarkably, still hasn't been released in Europe.Doug Bull said:I'm not sure if this has been discussed. For all those unfortunate international members without the proper gear please be aware that the Criterion disc is Region One..
Douglas, is that a Multi Region Blu-ray or DVD Player or both?Douglas R said:I bought a multi region player in order to watch the region one locked THE ROBE when Fox first released that and which, remarkably, still hasn't been released in Europe.
Both.Doug Bull said:Douglas, is that a Multi Region Blu-ray or DVD Player or both?
Thanks for that.Douglas R said:Both.
Multi region Blu-ray players are not easy to find in the UK but there are a few specialist dealers (like Multiregionmagic) who modify them. Mine is Technika, a supermarket brand for which you have to input a code to change regions. I really only need it for the few Criterion and Olive discs I have, so it doesn't get a lot of use!Doug Bull said:Thanks for that.
I knew that you could get a multi region DVD player but I wasn't sure if multi region blu-ray players existed,
although I do seem to remember reading something, somewhere, about region free OPPO players, but I still thought that it involved DVD only.
Does it handle 3D?
I guess multi region blu-ray players would also be available here in Australia under the same conditions as those in the UK.Douglas R said:Multi region Blu-ray players are not easy to find in the UK but there are a few specialist dealers (like Multiregionmagic) who modify them. It doesn't handle 3D. I have a separate region B player which plays 3D so I wouldn't be able to play a region A locked 3D Blu-ray disc, other than in 2D. Which is bad news for me with the 3D DRAGONFLY SQUADRON coming from Olive.
Doug, The Oppo are by far the best multi zone players and are easily obtainable here in Australia. I have the 105. You just enter the code to change zone. They also do 3D if that floats your boat ( it sinks mine).Doug Bull said:I guess multi region blu-ray players would also be available here in Australia under the same conditions as those in the UK.
You've shocked me Douglas about "Dragonfly Squadron" 3D not being region free.
My region one Sony blu-ray player pre-dates 3D.
I might need to update.

I still have over 10 years of back issues of "The LDN". Always read it cover to cover when the postman delivered it each month. Let my subscription lapse back in the late nineties when the immediacy of the internet pretty much ended my waiting for printed media to arrive.davidmatychuk said:Douglas Pratt's "DVD Laser Disc Newsletter" has weighed in on the Blu-Ray in the February 2014 issue. He made me want to buy it again.
