EMAILS have been sent to some folks confirming sale Tuesday
Hello Criterion Collectors,
It’s that time again!
Because you’re a loyal criterion.com shopper, we want you to be the first to know that our 24-hour Flash Sale starts tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, at noon ET!

All in-stock Blu-rays, DVDs, and 4K UHD discs will be on sale at 50% off SRP. Start building your Wish List, and set a reminder for noon tomorrow!

CRITERION FLASH SALE Starting MARCH 21, 2023 Noon ET for 24 HRS (I think I've updated most of the pertinent details that have changed since the last sale)

In case you didn't order in Oct -- NOTE THE $75 Free Shipping threshold that went into effect sometime last year

50% off MSRP (not current/Usual price) all in-stock movies

DVD, BD, Includes Eclipse set, but not general merchandise. Backorders and pre-orders usually haven't been allowed. Items will go OOS so don't wait too long though the last few sales, many things did come back into stock at least once if not several times during the sale. The website usually gets hammered in the first couple hrs so be patient.

Free Shipping at $75 in the Lower 48 US otherwise $7.95 flat rate shipping USPS or $10.95 UPS
Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, PO Box, APO/FPO USPS PRIORITY MAIL
FREE SHIPPING has always been calculated before applying any promo rewards or Gift Certificates are deducted. I think it's also pre-tax so 49.97 + tax isn't free.

No International orders other than Canada. The last few sales,
DHL Express $23USD Flat Rate
Customs and Brokerage fees added by Delivery Service/Collected at Delivery and are the responsibility of the customer

Sales Tax has been expanded and now required (NEW ADDITIONS BOLDED) for Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin

Criterion Loyalty program -- $50 Gift Cert for every cumulative purchase of $500 even if it takes 5 years. In the past those loyal rewards certs are sent via email almost immediately and are eligible for immediate use.
If you are close to $500 and have enough total items, I'd suggest making an order just big enough to qualify for the Loyalty Cert plus FS, then make another $50+ order with the extra money rather than make one large order and then have to wait 6 months for the next flash sale though the GC/Rewards don;t expire. You can load them into your account and the $$$ will be there next sale.

I did mention that in the shipping section since it gets asked a lot. Unfortunately even to Canada I think DHL has issues with extra fees and surcharges -- the Canadians can correct me if I'm wrong.

Unobstructed View (CA online store) usually runs a parallel sale though prices aren't as good and some people really have had a hard time with them over the years (slow shipping, excluded items, less than excellent communication, etc)

Also note is you tend to load up a cart the night before to be ready, Criterion will clear the cart sometime overnight -- so at least use the wishlist to save your items if you don't already have it set up. if you load sometime after sunrise usually it will be ready and the prices automatically adjust after the sale starts.

Nice selection. Happy birthday!

I had two $10 off coupon codes to add, and picked up The Adventures of Baron Munchausen 4K, Devil in a Blue Dress 4K, and Inland Empire.

I picked up 15 titles; used a $10 gift coupon and accumulated enough for a $50 reward; whereupon I placed a second order for the remaining 2 titles I needed to complete my collection. In essence, one could say that I got 3 BDs for free.

I also had two $10 gift certificates to apply:
  • The Velvet Underground (Blu-ray)
  • One-Eyed Jacks (Blu-ray)
  • The Thin Red Line (Blu-ray)
  • Merrily We Go To Hell (Blu-ray)
All good. Love Criterion editions.

Hmmm... didn't realize they just released The Last Hurrah for Chivalry.

Had been meaning to import the Eureka UK release (along w/ some other somewhat similar HK titles from the 70's and 80's), but never got to it (due largely to pandemic limitations). Too bad this Criterion release seems very barebones... although the Eureka really only adds a commentary track I probably wouldn't care about and bundles a 2nd flick of little interest to me...

Quite a few titles for me to choose from (between new and old releases) while trying to limit myself, LOL... and this flash sale just snuck up on me even though I was basically expecting it to come sometime this week or so...

Decisions, decisions...

Silly me. Took too long to decide... partly because I found it was cheaper to get a couple of the boxsets I was eyeing from BlowItOutaHere's current sale instead -- and I ended up wasting too much time deciding on one boxset I likely wasn't getting from this flash sale anyway, LOL...

Almost managed to grab The Power of the Dog 4K, maybe Double Indemnity 4K and/or The Last Hurrah of Chivalry (and/or maybe one other)... but then, got stuck wondering about PotD's 4K PQ no thanks to BR.com's review, LOL...

Ah well. Next time... and then, I guess I will have 3x $10 GCs accrued... :P

I wasn't going to order anything because I have most of the Criterions I want, and not much has appealed to me of their recent releases. However, I remembered I had a $10 credit from the Citizen Kane Blu-ray SNAFU, so I ordered the Zefferelli Romeo & Juliet. The credit covered the tax & shipping.

I ordered four which should be here on Monday:

Romeo & Juliet (BR)
Imitation of Life (BR)
Tom Jones (BR)
A Taste of Honey (BR)

I don't recall ever seeing Imitation of Life before. I've seen the others, although it has been a long time since I last saw either Romeo & Juliet or Tom Jones.

My order arrives today.
Mine is supposed to arrive today too. That's quick shipping. Using my $10 Criterion Channel GC (I'm grateful they continue to do that -- it obviously has the intended effect on me), I picked up:

The Silence of the Lambs (BR)
Repulsion (BR)
The Big Chill (BR)
The Gold Rush (BR)

The Silence of the Lambs finally replaces my non-anamorphic (!) 1998 (!!) Criterion DVD. The Gold Rush should also be an upgrade of the 2003 Warner/MK2 DVD set which has some weird issues related, I think, to PAL conversion. As usual I'm very slow to upgrade, finding titles I don't have generally more tempting than an upgrade when allocating the finite disc budget. Also, Silence is something I can't rewatch frequently anyway. But I'm ready for another viewing.

I've seen Big Chill and Repulsion both multiple times but never purchased (I think the latter went a long time without a decent R1 release). They've been on my wish list for quite a while and I've been itching to rewatch both of those lately as well.
