EMAILS have been sent to some folks confirming sale Tuesday
Dear Criterion Collectors,
It’s that time again!

Because you’re a loyal criterion.com shopper, we wanted you to be the first to know that our 24-hour Flash Sale starts tomorrow, Tuesday, October 17, at noon ET! All in-stock Blu-rays, DVDs, and 4K discs are 50% off the SRP at criterion.com.

CRITERION FLASH SALE Starting OCTOBER 17, 2023 Noon ET for 24 HRS

In case you didn't order the last couple of sales-- NOTE THE $75 Free Shipping threshold that went into effect sometime last year -- don;t know if will apply this sale, but many people noted the FS threshhold in March was based on the Non Sale price

50% off MSRP (not current/Usual price) all in-stock movies

DVD, BD, Includes Eclipse set, but not general merchandise. Backorders and pre-orders usually haven't been allowed. Items will go OOS so don't wait too long though the last few sales, many things did come back into stock at least once if not several times during the sale. The website usually gets hammered in the first couple hrs so be patient.

Free Shipping at $75 in the Lower 48 US otherwise $7.95 flat rate shipping USPS or $10.95 UPS
Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, PO Box, APO/FPO USPS PRIORITY MAIL
FREE SHIPPING has always been calculated before applying any promo rewards or Gift Certificates are deducted. I think it's also pre-tax so 49.97 + tax isn't free.

No International orders other than Canada. The last few sales,
DHL Express $23USD Flat Rate
Customs and Brokerage fees added by Delivery Service/Collected at Delivery and are the responsibility of the customer

Sales Tax has been expanded and now required (NEW ADDITIONS BOLDED) for Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin

Criterion Loyalty program -- $50 Gift Cert for every cumulative purchase of $500 even if it takes 5 years. In the past those loyal rewards certs are sent via email almost immediately and are eligible for immediate use.
If you are close to $500 and have enough total items, I'd suggest making an order just big enough to qualify for the Loyalty Cert plus FS, then make another $50+ order with the extra money rather than make one large order and then have to wait 6 months for the next flash sale though the GC/Rewards don;t expire. You can load them into your account and the $$$ will be there next sale.

New ITEMS since the end of last Criterion Flash Sale (MSRP $40 unless noted) -- I'm doing this on the fly so let me know of any errors

Also, 4Ks of Videodrome and Don't Look Now were released earlier this month.

I was in the process of gathering the details on the October items -- my spreadsheet only went through the end of September. Also was trying to figure out if the 3 $30 MSRP Janus Items were going to be included in the sale -- still not 100% sure, but for now will assume they will be included.

I think it should be mostly UTD now

Oh -- and my computer BSOD in the middle of everything so I had to regather some of the new data. Maybe an omen I should skip this sale except Criterion sent me a $10 Cert and I'm not even a Stream Subscriber.

And the dog at my notes and the Aliens kidnapped me for a new round of experiments

I saved a couple of titles for next month's B&N sale, but today's order has the following:

Tod Browning's Sideshow Shockers (Blu-ray)
The Trial (4K/UHD)
Don't Look Now (4K/UHD)
The Princess Bride (4K/UHD)
La Bamba (Blu-ray)

Even better -- this time the site didn't empty my cart overnight like in the past. Usually sometime b/w MN and 6am they used to purge the carts though as long as it was in my wishlist it wasn't that hard to reload early morning. This way was even easier and they auto-update the prices during checkout

I'm still trying to figure out the Free Shipping Threshhold. The $75 is not based on MSRP nor actual cost of the cart. best guess is that it $75 of Criterion.com regular sales price which is approx 20% off MSRP for most items

I always have trouble prioritizing and trimming my wish list for these sales to align with budget (the Kino Lorber sales too). I was gonna limit myself to 3 titles but couldn't resist these 4. Thanks to $30 worth of Criterion Channel subscriber gift certificates the bite was not too bad. After the next sale I will likely have enough loyalty points to score the $50 gift certificate.

The Trial (4K UHD+Blu-ray Combo) - I don't have a 4K player but decided to spring the few extra bucks for the combo for some future-proofing. I've never owned this title but always wanted a decent copy.
Total price: $24.97

The Golden Age of Television (DVD) - I don't often buy DVD anymore but I do love these live TV productions. I have some of these on laserdisc from back in the day (but don't currently have an LD player hooked up anyway).
Total price: $24.97

The Kid Brother (Blu-ray) - I do have the Harold Lloyd DVD box from some years back but the reviews and extras on this one pushed me to upgrade. (Also, this is easily my favorite Lloyd feature).
Total price: $19.97

McCabe & Mrs. Miller (Blu-ray) - Another favorite I've never owned.
Total price: $19.97

Subtotal: $89.88
Promotion discount: $53.96
Credit: -$30.00
Shipping & handling: $0.00
Tax: $7.19
Total: $67.06

I was hoping Amazon would join in, but I guess that's only during the B&N sale. I'll have to decide if I want to get to $75.

FWIW, I put two UHDs in my cart ($49.94 total) and went to the final step of checkout, and it didn't charge me shipping.

That was sort of the tipping point for me to believe it's based on pre-sale prices.
2 BD -- $40 sale, $64 regular price, $80 MSRP -- shipping charges apply
2 4K -- $50 sale, $80 regular price, $100 MSRP -- free shipping

I am glad you pointed it out. I would have just assumed I had to buy four UHDs to get free shipping, since even three would have been a little below $75.

Deep Cover (BluRay). $95.xx, including shipping. Not bad.

I actually found I had $50(!) in GCs waiting to be used (including a $10 one from CC's last Christmas? sale that doesn't seem tied to TCC subscription promo), but ended up only going for these 3... after already just splurging on various other things like the Kino sale plus some photography stuff:

  • The Power of the Dog 4K
  • The Trial BD -- hope I don't regret skipping the 4K and saving a few bucks on this
  • Last Hurrah for Chivalry BD

I did have more I would like and mulled over, but given the (regularly recurring) flash sale time limit (plus also the likely upcoming B&N sale), pricing not being nearly as tempting as Kino's sale (for the most part) and the splurging I just did, felt I needed to exercise some discipline here and better to buy less for now, especially since my backlog has already long been so very huge (and still growing), LOL...

Yeah, I missed the last flash sale while mulling too long or something, so that's partly why I accumulated that much in promo GCs. I probably need to be more prepared for them... :P
