I'd appreciate recommendations on a DVD player that has a built-in DTS decoder as well as the capability to play DVD-R.
I've seen the Sony DVPNC650 on sale - it's a 5-disc changer with both DD and DTS decoders - and I know it's an older model, but would it still be a reasonable choice? I don't need progressive scan, but do need good 3:2 pull-down capability which the Sonys tend to excel at.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I believe that's the bigger brother to the 500 that I just bought. If I'm right it's a 5 disc changer with DVD and SACD capabilities, and reads CD-R and CD-RW. My brother Peter is running this with an older DD-Ready receiver (Onkyo 828THX - great receiver) and is very happy with it. I say go for it!
