View a film directed by Peter Weir, and you're apt to get something unique, visceral and thoughtful.
You won't be getting one of those films that's out of the same box as many others.
The Truman Show, now with 25 years of bottle age is one such film. It holds up magnificently, and stands that test of time.
Written by Andrew Nicol, shot by Peter Biziou, and with production design by Dennis Gassner, it remains not only the delight today that it was upon release, but shows precisely how much creativity is being lost via the continuous streams of "Universe" films.
The cast, with few exceptions, all playing the cast, are magnificent. - Jim Carrey, Laura Linney et al - and being a spectator as the lead figures out what's going on around him is constantly entertaining.
As a 4k, Paramount's new release looks perfect to my eyes. A few instances where grain goes a bit soft, but I had no interest in trying to figure out why - dupes? problems shot? - doesn't matter, as virtually every shot is magnificently portrayed on this disc, which holds only the feature. Extras will be found on the Blu-ray.
The Truman Show is akin to a bowl of the potato chips that can't be put down, once you taste the first. Only in this case, there's nothing inherently bad for you.
Image – 5 (Dolby Vision)
Audio – 5 (Dolby Atmos)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Plays nicely with projectors - Yes
Makes use of and works well in 4k - 7.5
Worth your attention - 10
Slipcover rating - 3 (reflective and colorful - replicating the inner packaging)
Very Highly Recommended
