Well, Guys. . . It’s time to start guessing what tv shows will come out on DVD for 2020.
You can stop laughing now.
I know. I know. TV shows on DVD are going the way of the dinosaur, and more things are going to streaming than anything else. But I thought I might articulate a thought or two.
First off, I have to give CBS/Paramount props this year for their releases on Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Our Miss Brooks, and Ben Casey. Congrats. If I were to choose between CBS/Paramount’s MOD releases and WB Archives tv releases, I would have to give the award to CBS/Paramount. WB Archives has fallen way behind on classic tv releases, and hopefully they can catch up in the years ahead.
Okay. Okay. I can hear the laughing again.
For 2020, I’m going to guess the following to come out:
the short lived VR5
the short lived series Rounders from WB Archives
Goodnight Beantown from WB Archives
the animated Wildfire from WB Archives
Goldie Gold and Action Jack from WB Archives
Fangface from WB Archives
the...

I give Bonanza a chance at making it through season 12 next year, with it being finished up in 2021.

Unfortunately, the only Bonanza season to fall below the magic and arbitrary 24 episode threshold CBS seems to have set is the final season, season 14.

But, with Gunsmoke almost certainly finishing up next year, the western slot is wide open and I could see them getting two, two set seasons of Bonanza out, with a further two set release and the final, single set the year after.

I'm guessing nothing I want to see (77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, Bourbon St. Beat, Colt .45, The Alaskans, Surfside 6, the rest of The Defenders, etc) will be released.

V.I.P.

(Assuming MillCreek's license with Sony includes this show, and MillCreek is willing to lower their standards even further)

I've given up on guesses since for the last several years I've been waiting for Warner to finish "Eleventh Hour" and still not seen that happen (and that frankly soured my enthusiasm for what Warner Archive would put out TV wise on DVD). I still can't believe a whole decade plus has gone by without Season 2 of "Burke's Law" either.

Pretty much I feel like I'm at a dead-end as far as new TV on DVD purchases go. I think we heard a report that "One Step Beyond" was coming complete from the 35mm elements and if that comes to pass I'll get that.

I'm also hoping for One Step Beyond. I've been clearing out old vhs tapes recently, so will finally pick up some old Timeless releases like Stoney Burke, Overland Trail, and Riverboat.

I’m going to guess that we’ll get one thing we never would have seriously imagined was in the cards (though I have no guesses for what that could be) and slow progress for shows still working their way towards completion.

Better yet. Just make a systematic list of EVERYTHING which has ever been on tv which has not been released yet on dvd/bluray/4Kbluray.

Hope that at least a few entries in such a giant systematic list is released this year.

Basically similar to the notion that a dead mechanical clock is exactly "correct" two times every day. ;)

Some as-yet unreleased TV shows might stay in the vaults and not be available on streaming services, either. At least those which had not previously been released on VHS or DVD.

Several titles not on DVD may have to be worked on to be made available for streaming, particularly those made in collaboration with other companies.

All this being said, I still hope there will be more classic TV releases on DVD!!! Among those I still hope for to be released on the medium are:
The Millionaire (1955-1960)
Breaking Point (1963-1964)
The Cara Williams Show (1964-1965)

Gonna go way out on a limb and guess that Gunsmoke season 20 comes out in 2020. <_< Hard to believe that at this point CBS is the most active in releasing classic tv.

There's lots of other things I'd love to see, but none of them I expect to see next year. I'll go along with Josh's thought there will definitely be something that we didn't see coming. But at this point that is almost everything else that hasn't been released yet.

I agree about Gunsmoke , Bonanza , Our Miss Brooks , My Three Sons and Ben Casey .
I haven't seen Me And The Chimp since it aired back in the early seventies and I did enjoy it back then . Bessel was always a serviceable actor, so I hope the shows sees a release on MOD. Not many episodes filmed . Another "lost " show was the 1970 Tim Conway Show . I watched it back then , and would love to see it again.
Also like to see America /Fernwood 2Nite get a DVD release (Shout Factory ), and Seinfeld on Blu-ray . Are these possible ?
Naturally there are other shows , but I don't know what the chances are . Things like Happy , Peoples Choice , December Bride , Johnny Ringo , Colt 45, Adventures In Paradise .

I am hoping CBS puts out Season 5 of My Three Sons (my fave of the B&W years) and starts on the color seasons.
I also wish the first 2 seasons will someday be re-released with all the original music cues and no edited episodes in any of the seasons. Perhaps wishful thinking.

Seasons 6-8 of The Donna Reed Show, Season 7 of Alfred Hitchcock Presents(Season 6 seems to have become unavailable now on Amazon and other stores and selling for quite a bit on Ebay), Alfred Hitchcock Hour, More My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, More Beverly Hillbillies...and Sam Nelson finally delivers The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet..Yes I Know...Very Wishful Thinking on That One.
