The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

  1. As always, thanks so much for your work, Mike!

I thought Miss Sloane was very good, and Jessica Chastain was phenomenal in it. I would encourage a rental for those (most people) who missed it in theaters. However, it's not one that I would replay often enough to justify a purchase.

So, absolutely nothing for me this week — which is good, because next week is much heavier.

  2. Thanks for the prices, Mike, and the links to reviews.

I put in to review a couple of other of this week’s releases, but they haven’t arrived yet. Hopefully, they’ll appear this week as I continue to work on titles for the last week in March.

I'm still waiting on last week's How to Succeed to show up from SAE!

If your order still says pending, you can send them an email. If it has a tracking number you can click on the link and track it through the (USPS ? ) website … Ordering stuff from KINO directly if even more fun .. FedEX has found a way to send the package to the smallest towns they can find on it's way across the country …

  4. Mike Frezon

    I actually did that yesterday!

    I hope I get a response tomorrow.

    And my response:

    Good morning,

We just received the stock of the new titles late last week and are working to get those out now. Your order will ship by end of business today.

    Sincerely,

    Katie

    Screen Archives Entertainment

I think, though, there were people who got their TT tiles from SAE several days ago…but I'd have to find those comments in the TT thread to be sure. I know the people who ordered through TT got theirs on time…or early!

I picked mine up today (shipped Friday) with the 4 new releases and 2 sale titles. As it turns out, my second order of 6 sale titles from Monday shipped Friday and came today also. Often it seems it's one title that holds things up. Last month it was 2 separate new titles that were delayed at the replicator and my preorders were nearly 2 weeks late. I'm can't remember if you ordered the group of 4 to get the $99.80 price or not.

  6. Mike Frezon

    Nope.

Just How to Succeed…and, since I was ordering, Nicholas Nickleby & Zulu.

So much for that theory that sounded good when I wrote it. I can't remember if folks who go How to Succeed all got them from TT or some from SAE? Hopefully by the end of the week everything will come through.

At least it's better than the Family Video Arrow Title sale which is 2 weeks and counting and only 10% of the items seem to delivered. No shipping emails, nothing in your account updates, titles just randomly show up in a baggie. It hard to get too mad since the prices the first week were 65-75% off before most of them bumped up last week. Still lots of strained tempers for folks that don't remember "Items will be delivered in 8-12 weeks, just mail 10 boxtops and a quarter to Cheerios Deal PO BOX", etc.

  7. Wow, I must have been under a rock, two titles this week I had no idea was coming. I might have known about Life Boat when I bought the region two copy last year. I’ll be curious if there is a review thread to see if this copy might be from a better print.

Being There is a terrific film and one of Sellers best work. I’m really glad it’s finally coming and from Criterion no less!

  8. This just sucks. 🙁

SAE is still listing my pre-order of 3-1 as "pending." That's even with the response of March 20th (posted above) that it would be shipped by the end of business on March 20th.

How to Succeed was released on March 14th! I think I'm done with them…

The other titles in that 3-1 order were Zulu and Nicholas Nickleby. Cant figure this out.

  9. I ordered Moby Dick in the first seconds of pre-order from the TT website and it seems like it was about 2 weeks after the street date (11/15) before it arrived. So I don't think these delays are exclusive to SAE. I just think TT is too aggressive in setting their street date. They seem to have issues getting the product in stock in time for a prompt shipment.

Since TT ships directly from the Technicolor replication facility warehouse, it pretty easy to pinpoint the culprit. TT even posted a blurb confirming that TC buyout and closing of the Cinram facilites thinking they could absorb the excess capacity into the existing TC facility caused a large ripple effect. It's not only affected TT, but ended up trickling down to many other studios

If you make an order for 3000 units with TC to be completed for street date of 3/28 4 months ahead of time, they confirm the order, and then they are 1-2 weeks late I'm not TT has any blame in the issues. I know Cinram frequently used to bump TT 'small' print runs when they were behind on a major studio release with 100K units (if your CInram who are you going to bump)

That specifically doesn't seem to be Mike;s problem, but I'm a little confused why his order specifically got delayed at least past the weekend after release date when it seems most people got shipment emails with the new release from SAE

So I sent the SAE customer service rep the following e-mail yesterday:

    Hi Katie!

Nine days since your response and no package in sight. And your site still lists my order as "pending."

    Why the delay?

    Mike Frezon

    Her response this morning:

    Good morning,

I sincerely apologize for the delay. It looks like we had an error in processing. Your order will ship out today.

    Sincerely,

    Katie

    No longer pending. Hurrah. 🙄

I've got a tracking number which tells me a label has been created. I would suspect I might see it sometime next week.

Wonder what would have happened if I hadn't persisted?

  12. I'm glad it's cleared up, but definitely out of the norm. I've probably made 40 SAE orders in the last 5 years and never gotten delayed like that — other than when it was due to them not having product. I made a last ditch sale order Monday and it arrived today which is unusual the other direction — usually a Monday order would be a Sat/Mon delivery.

Well, you don't have to rub it in!

Normally, I take these things in stride. But I've been wanting How To Succeed on Blu for a very long time…

Well, there was a recent turnover in the mailroom. Something about a promotion and confusion over his successor.

They must have hired the guy that used to work for Best Buy and wouldn't send Mike coupons.
