Greetings:

I've read that I can have my AVR-4806 (bought for $1000) to an AVR-4806CI. Basically, this upgrade allows for Internet Radio through the Ethernet port, 1080p scaling, and provides 1080p HDMI video switching capability. I don't care about Ethernet Radio; however, is 1080p scaling and 1080p HDMI video switching is critical? If it were you will you perform this upgrade?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

At this point in time, I think that you would be wasting your money. I haven't seen very many posts that say that 1080p us better than 1080i or 720p, depending upon the source.

Once HD comes out with at 1080p, and you have a 1080p projector/display, then I might consider it, but any reports I've seen have been either slightly positive, or even slightly negative about 1080p, given the source material we have now.

And where did you get that receiver for $1000??? Wo!

Thank you for the input and advice.

I got this receiver from a local Denon dealer on a sale day. It's a floor model. However, I was fortunate to grab this unit while it is just displayed on the shelve, not a scratch, no dust, no fingerprint etc and with all accessories with exception no original box.

Anyway, currently I don't have 1080P tube yet. I will get a 60" 1080p (either plasma or LCD) once the price comes down to an acceptable level i.e below $4000.

According to Denon customer service, the HDMI on the 4806 is already 1080p passthru. I still don't understand what a switching functionality is.

It probably allows switching from other sources through the 1080p scaling, allowing you to scale any source input (HDMI, component, s-vid, composite) to output 1080p through the HDMI.
