Hello,

After reading lots of speaker reviews and reading how the reviewer calibrated to "Dolby Standards" I would like to do the same.

The way I've been setting up/tweaking my rig is as follows:

Set Radio Shack db meter to C weight, slow. Set dial to 80db.

Turn up volume on receiver w/pink noise playing so meter centers on 80db

Tweak all channels, except the sub, to read the same on the meter.

Is there more to it than that?

FWIW, I keep the sub at about three notches higher (on the meter) than the other 5 speakers. Having the sub play at the same level results in very little output from the sub.

Thanks.

We have a Primer/FAQ that covers a lot of this: Home Theater means Accuracy & Calibration

Generally 'philes recommend 75 db (but I'm with you: 80db is easier to read on the meter). And the subwoofer should be 5-8 db louder.

There is also a LOT of placement changes you can do with a sub to smooth out the room response. Search the Speakers fourm for "House Curve" to read about members who plotted their room response.

Thanks, Bob.

I forgot about my thread here. :b Too much time spent at work....dulls the brain, you know? Heh.

I'll check out the FAQ. Thanks again. :)

OK, I scanned every post in the FAQ and there was nothing in there about calibrating. Unless I missed it....

Lots of real basics for the real newbie...a good tutorial for the true newbie.

Did I miss the calibration section?

Yep. I missed it. It's this new mouse I bought...it scrolls REALLY fast. Yeah, that's it...the mouse. :b

There's even a nifty picture of the R.S. db Meter. :D

Hehehh...*slinks away behind the couch*

Thanks, Jeff Gatie. :)
