What did CCR have against Lodi anyway? (1 Viewer)

So anyway my question is: what did Fogarty have against Lodi in specific? It's not at the end of a line and necessary to make the verses rhyme. Almost any short name could have been used. I think of this whenever I drive through Lodi these days.

It has a little under 60 thousand people now, but back in 1970 it was about 28 thousand. Back then it seemed like just another stop on Hwy 99.

I went to school in Stockton way back when and Stockton/Lodi were pretty scary places.Huge murder rate and downright evil gunbattles.
At the time stockton was trying to change it's image by having a huge billboard with the slogan, "Stockton someplace special"
It was riddle with gunshots
We sang that song a lot living there

Hey, now! I actually lived in Lodi about 20 years ago (moved there for my first job out of college). It was NOT a bad town, just a sleepy town. Very rich farmers and wine-makers. But there was Sacramento Street, the place where all the farm hands went to drink on a Saturday night. Ugly! I liked the town, but exciting it was not. I was glad to get back to the Bay Area after two years in Lodi.

As I recall from a radio interview J Fogerty did quite a few years ago, they were going from Fresno to Sacramento on highway 99 when the bus broke down in? LODI! It took a few hours to fix the bus and while waiting, John wrote the song. This is the way I remember it anyway. As I said, it was a long time ago. Gene
