BIG week, RoundUppers!!

Some insane catalog releases...and some very high-profile BP nominees for 2017...and a couple of big Disney releases thrown in, too!

I've got Tom Jones and The Outlaw pre-ordered and on their way to me. I'll be picking up Three Billboards and The Darkest Hour down the road when they start to come down in price. And I'll pick up Murder on the Orient Express when it's on some kind of HUGE sale.

But I've got to figure out the best way to get the 4k of Coco for a decent price...and Best Buy's $29.99 just isn't doing it for me. Target didn't list a price in their flyer and I'm not sure what other online retailers might be selling it for...so anyone who's got a bead on a good price, I'd love to hear about it! If it doesn't look like it'll happen, I might decide to just go for the standard Blu of Coco.

The Best Buy exclusives you mentioned for Thor and Star Wars are steelbooks. They are up for pre-order on the website already. It seems like Best Buy must have standing deal with Disney for most steelbooks, since the only Disney steelbook title I've ever gotten that *wasn't* from Best Buy was Finding Dory, which that one time only was an exclusive through Target. I think Target might also have had the Big Hero 6 one (I missed it due to sellout), but otherwise, Disney and steelbook have been pretty synonymous with Best Buy.

I didn't like Coco enough to buy it, and I've got the previous Blu-ray of Lady and the Tramp, so the Amazon-Disney thing won't affect me on this particular week, but I agree it is ridiculous and beyond time for that to end.

Murder on the Orient Express was a fun movie, but I don't know that it would be tremendously rewatchable, and I don't necessarily feel the need to rush out and buy it. Darkest Hour is, in my opinion, one of the worst films of 2017 and the worst Best Picture nominee I've seen this side of Crash. So, obviously I'll pass on that too. More power to those who liked it, but if anyone is on the fence about it I would strongly discourage blind buys of it. If you're curious, best to go with a rental to decide if it is for you.

Three Billboards will be on its way to me from Amazon this week. I loved it in the theater and am very much looking forward to seeing it again.

The $14.99 pricepoint on Blade Runner 2049 is also awfully nice, since I've been waiting for that one to go down, but I don't know if I should do it, because March is so packed with new titles. We'll see.

Re The Darkest Hour. I would strongly encourage blind buys of this terrific mesmerizing film. Especially if you’re a history or WWII buff.

Thanks, Jake. I figured as much...but the images in the flyer didn't look like steelbooks (didn't have the typical rounded corners) so I wasn't sure.

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike. What a huge week for new and catalog titles! There are at least half a dozen of these that I'll be buying sooner rather than later. After checking out the quality of my DVD of Tom Jones, I can't wait to get that out of my house and replace it with the Criterion.

I know you were half-kidding there, but, no apology needed; I'm glad you liked it. I know people who did like it. I just think that it has been divisive, so would encourage rentals first in this case. I hated it, but I certainly would not discourage those interested from checking it out and seeing if they feel differently.

I'll be picking up Coco and while it'll probably be on sale down the road, I'll still most likely pick up Three Billboards. Coincidentally, I expect both of those to win the Oscar in their respective categories.

Murder On The Orient Express is fun and The Darkest Hour has a wonderful performance from Gary Oldman so both of those are well worth renting for anyone who hasn't seen them.

Big week for me. I plan on picking up Coco and Murder on the Orient Express on 4K. I'm also going to get 78/52: Hitchcock's Shower Scene and there's something about the artwork for The Outlaw that has me interested in picking it up as well.

I'll be renting Three Billboards and The Darkest Hour.

But it has certainly been divisive among my friend group, at the very least. I know people who loved it, and I also know others who have hated it. It is certainly not receiving a unanimous response in either direction as some other films last year did.

Yeah--even more notable considering that movie was made when the Hays Code held Hollywood in its grip.

Again, with the qualifier that I can only speak to my friend group: everybody loved The Big Sick. Everybody loved Get Out (even me, and I usually avoid horror films.) And recently, everybody loved Paddington 2. With Darkest Hour, my friends are actually pretty evenly split. That's all I'm saying.
